The role of the Sous Chef at Boyd Gaming is integral to the culinary operations of the company's specialty restaurants. This position is responsible for preparing meals according to established recipes and standards, ensuring that every dish meets the high-quality expectations of the company and its guests. As a key member of the kitchen leadership team, the Sous Chef will work both independently and alongside kitchen staff to oversee the daily culinary activities. This includes managing the kitchen team’s workflow, training and coaching staff, and ensuring adherence to safety and cleanliness standards in all kitchen and storage areas.

The Sous Chef must possess a thorough understanding of cooking techniques, menus, and recipes specific to the cuisine or style of the restaurant to which they are assigned. This role also involves handling personnel matters such as interviewing, hiring, scheduling, evaluating, promoting, counseling, and, when necessary, discharging kitchen staff. Inventory management is another crucial aspect, requiring the Sous Chef to requisition stock based on business needs and ensure proper storage and rotation of food products to maintain quality and safety standards.

Resolving customer complaints related to food quality and preparation swiftly and professionally is also a vital responsibility of the Sous Chef, ensuring guest satisfaction and maintaining the reputation of Boyd Gaming’s culinary offerings. Physical demands of the role include the ability to stand for extended periods and perform activities such as grasping, reaching, bending, lifting, and kneeling. Excellent customer service and communication skills are essential to effectively manage the team and interact with guests.

This position requires a minimum of two years of experience as a Sous Chef or in a similar culinary leadership position. Candidates must also be able to obtain and maintain any necessary licenses and certifications required for the role.
