The Assistant Team Leader role at Whole Foods Market is a dynamic and vital position that supports the Team Leader in managing daily store operations to promote profitability, expense control, merchandising, labor management, and regulatory compliance. This position plays a critical leadership role by developing and mentoring Team Members, ensuring outstanding customer service, and maintaining high standards of operational execution. Assistant Team Leaders act as departmental leaders and take charge in the absence of the Team Leader, ensuring seamless store operations that align with company goals and values.
In this role, Assistant Team Leaders will be responsible for assisting in sales analysis, inventory management, labor targets, and budget preparations while fostering a positive work environment centered on teamwork, mutual respect, and employee development. They will also oversee regulatory adherence, health and safety compliance, and customer engagement to create a welcoming and efficient shopping experience. This role requires a proactive approach to coaching Team Members, managing scheduling needs, and resolving operational challenges, all while upholding the Whole Foods Market’s purpose and culture.
The compensation for this position ranges from $20.05 to $35.00 per hour, depending on experience. Job Requirements
- 18+ months retail Team Member experience and 6+ months of supervisory experience
- must be able to lift 50 pounds
- standing/walking 6-8 hours in an 8-hour work day
- hand use includes single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling
- work requires bending, twisting, squatting and reaching
- exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals
- exposure to temperatures below 32 degrees Fahrenheit (freezing), 32-40 degrees Fahrenheit (refrigerators), above 90 degrees Fahrenheit
- ability to work in a wet and cold environment
- ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
- ability to use tools and equipment, including box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery
- where applicable, TIPS course completion required and must be age 18 or older to serve alcohol

Job Duties
- Develops and maintains creative store layout and product merchandising
- works with Team Leader to achieve sales, purchasing, and labor targets
- assists Team Leader in analysis of sales, reports, and labor
- assists team leader in annual sales and expense projections and budget preparation
- assists team leader with ordering and inventory management
- works with Team Leader to resolve team concerns or issues
- functions as point person and departmental person in charge in absence of Team Leader
- sets and achieves the highest standards of retail execution
- fosters and encourages a positive environment of outstanding teamwork, mutual respect, and exceptional morale
- maintains awareness of customer flows and needs and directs Team Members as necessary to satisfy and delight customers
- selects, trains, develops, mentors, motivates, and counsels Team Members in a manner that sustains a high-performance team and minimizes turnover
