This role is for an Assistant Team Leader who supports the Team Leader in daily store operations. This position is critical in managing store profitability, controlling expenses, overseeing buying and merchandising tasks, and ensuring labor targets and regulatory compliance are met. The Assistant Team Leader also plays a key role in leading and developing team members, fostering a culture of teamwork, respect, and motivation at the store. The role requires delivering excellent customer service and maintaining a positive company image at all times. In addition to daily responsibilities, the Assistant Team Leader is involved in special projects that contribute to the success and growth of the store.

The position demands a strong understanding of specialty products, regulatory and safety procedures, and the ability to analyze sales and financial reports to support store goals. Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays is essential. The wage range for this position is $20.05 to $35.00 hourly, depending on experience.

Job Requirements

  • 18+ months retail Team Member experience
  • 6+ months of supervisory experience
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds
  • Ability to stand and walk for 6-8 hours in an 8-hour work day
  • Ability to perform hand use motions including single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling
  • Ability to bend, twist, squat and reach
  • Exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals
  • Ability to work in temperatures below freezing, in refrigerators, and at high temperatures above 90 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Ability to work in wet and cold environments
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
  • Ability to use tools and equipment such as box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery
  • Where applicable, completion of TIPS course and must be 18 years or older to serve alcohol

Job Duties

  • Develops and maintains creative store layout and product merchandising
  • Works with Team Leader to achieve sales, purchasing, and labor targets
  • Assists Team Leader in analysis of sales, reports, and labor
  • Assists team leader in annual sales and expense projections and budget preparation
  • Assists team leader with ordering and inventory management
  • Works with Team Leader to resolve team concerns or issues
  • Functions as point person and departmental person in charge in absence of Team Leader
  • Sets and achieves the highest standards of retail execution
  • Fosters and encourages a positive environment of outstanding teamwork, mutual respect, and exceptional morale
  • Maintains awareness of customer flows and needs and directs Team Members as necessary to satisfy and delight customers
  • Responds promptly to customer needs and questions
  • Selects, trains, develops, mentors, motivates, and counsels Team Members in a manner that sustains a high-performance team and minimizes turnover
  • Communicates and maintains Team Member safety and security standards
  • Provides timely, thorough, and thoughtful performance evaluations
  • Consistently communicates and models WFM vision and goals
