The Provo Recreation Center serves as a hub for community engagement through its extensive leisure and fitness offerings. The available part-time position of Special Events Recreation Lead involves working closely with the Special Events Coordinator to prepare for, market, and manage a range of recreational special events. This role is ideal for motivated, civic-minded individuals who are passionate about creating enjoyable experiences for the public. Employees in this position contribute to the energetic and creative events team and help uphold the city's reputation for excellent community programming.
Compensation for this role is set at $14.00 per hour, with part-time employees eligible for individual retirement savings plans, including 401k, 457, Roth IRA, or Traditional IRA options. The Special Events Recreation Lead is responsible for organizing, scheduling, implementing, and evaluating assigned special events. Duties include developing registration forms, policies, and practices in collaboration with operations staff, maintaining schedules, reporting performance issues, and providing feedback on event participation and effectiveness. The role also involves soliciting information from participants, posting event notices and updates across multiple platforms, and creating digital, print, and graphic materials aligned with city brand guidelines. Managing and scheduling social media content and supervising volunteers when necessary are also key components of the position. Flexibility is essential since the work week includes Monday through Saturday with variable hours, especially on event days.
This position requires both office and outdoor work, sometimes under adverse weather conditions and in high-stress situations involving public interactions. Physical requirements include the ability to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds. A valid, lawful driver’s license may be required.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Any experience that demonstrates an ability to perform the work
- A valid, lawful driver license may be required
- Ability to lift heavy objects up to 50 lbs
- Availability to work flexible hours including Monday through Saturday
- Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Ability to handle high-stress situations including confrontational or uncomfortable interactions with the public
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Any experience that demonstrates an ability to perform the work
- Event-planning experience preferred
- Social media and marketing experience preferred
- Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with diverse groups
- Proficiency in basic computer applications
