Job Description
Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern California (RMHCSC) is a cherished non-profit organization dedicated to providing comfort, care, and support to children and their families who are facing medical challenges. Located in Los Angeles and operating near several major hospitals, RMHCSC fulfills its mission through a network of seven Ronald McDonald Houses, three Ronald McDonald Family Rooms, and the Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times. This organization serves as a vital resource for families by offering a home-like environment and essential support services during difficult times, thereby helping to ease the emotional and financial burdens that often accompany childhood illness.
The Los Angeles Ronald McDonald House is currently seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Special Events Manager to join its Development Team. This non-exempt, full-time position offers a competitive pay rate of $30 per hour and entails working approximately 40 hours per week. Reporting directly to the Director of Development, the Special Events Manager will play a critical role in the fundraising efforts of RMHCSC by planning, managing, and executing special fundraising events that directly support the organization’s programs and services.
As a key member of the Development Team, the Special Events Manager will be responsible for the end-to-end management of signature fundraising events, particularly the notable 2Theres No Place Like Home9 Gala. This role involves strategic event planning, managing logistical details such as timelines, marketing collateral, vendor relationships, and promotion, as well as the oversight of sponsor and attendee engagement. The manager will maintain and cultivate relationships within a donor portfolio, securing sponsorships, underwriting revenue, and driving ticket sales to meet or exceed fundraising goals. Additionally, responsibility extends to the year-round solicitation of auction items and program advertisements, ensuring budgeted revenue targets are achieved while controlling costs to maintain a low expense ratio.
Beyond individual events, the Special Events Manager will collaborate with the Development Team to prepare and implement the organization’s annual fundraising plan, contributing valuable insights and maintaining active communication through regular progress reports. This position also supports third-party fundraising initiatives, fostering community partnerships to broaden the organizations reach and impact. In addition to event-centric duties, the manager will participate in monthly event cohort meetings with staff from other RMHCSC events and actively engage in community outreach and speaking engagements as needed. The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills, and be willing to work some evenings and weekends to support event activities. This role requires a professional who is capable of working compassionately with staff, volunteers, donors, and families served by RMHCSC, truly embodying the organizations mission and values.
