We are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced leader to take on the critical role of supervising all aspects of our special events, farmers market, and outdoor programs. This leadership position involves comprehensive oversight spanning staffing, programming, and budget management to ensure the successful operation of the division. Reporting directly to the Parks and Recreation Director, the successful candidate will play a vital role in managing division operations, handling public relations, overseeing finances, and coordinating events to guarantee smooth functioning and memorable experiences for the community.
The role requires hands-on involvement in planning, coordinating, and executing events from initial concept through post-event analysis. The individual will manage logistics, budgets, and vendor relations, maintaining essential supplies, records, reports, and schedules across multiple program sites. This position demands flexibility with shift work, including evenings, weekends, and various locations dictated by activity schedules.
Supervisory responsibilities include overseeing the Outdoor Programs Coordinator and assisting in hiring and managing part-time staff, special interest instructors, and volunteers. The position involves active engagement with local schools, civic groups, participants, and the general public, serving as a primary point of contact for inquiries related to recreation, special events, and city programs through various communication channels such as telephone, correspondence, public appearances, and social media.
Additional key responsibilities encompass managing registration, coordination, and promotion for classes, seasonal programs, the farmers market, and other activities. The role requires interpreting and enforcing City rules and regulations, recruitment and training of staff and volunteers, as well as executing miscellaneous duties including administrative support, purchasing, attending City meetings, and financial transactions.
Marketing and promotion of programs and services form a significant aspect of this leadership role, leveraging printed materials, press releases, public speaking, and social media platforms. The successful candidate will also facilitate partnerships to enhance sponsorship opportunities, providing a strategic advantage in resource acquisition and community involvement.
Physical demands include the ability to perform a full range of motion activities such as lifting objects up to 50 lbs, bending, stooping, reaching, stretching, and prolonged sitting. Competency in using various equipment, including trucks, hand tools, office technology, and cleaning supplies, is necessary for effective job performance.
