Job Description

The Province of St. Joseph of the Capuchin Order is a religious community deeply inspired by the gospel of Jesus Christ and the exemplary life of St. Francis of Assisi. This community of friars is dedicated to building sister-brotherhood and serving the world through prayer, ministry, and social outreach. Focused on helping those who are poor and disenfranchised, their mission promotes justice, compassion, and solidarity among people from all walks of life. The Capuchin Franciscan Province of St. Joseph is particularly rooted in the traditions of Franciscan spirituality and Catholic values, living their faith actively by serving those facing challenging circumstances in Detroit, Milwaukee, and surrounding areas.

This rich spiritual heritage grounds the ministry’s various community programs, including the Capuchin Soup Kitchen, Solanus Casey Center, Capuchin Community Services, and Capuchin Retreat. These ministries are vital in providing food, shelter, spiritual care, and critical human services to vulnerable populations. The Province is not just a religious community but also a network of engaged partners committed to social justice and outreach. They endeavor to sustain these ministries through fundraising, events, community connections, and donor engagement.

The Province of St. Joseph of the Capuchin Order is currently seeking a full-time Special Events Manager to join their dedicated team in Detroit, Michigan. This role provides an exceptional opportunity to contribute meaningfully to community service and mission-driven fundraising. The Special Events Manager will play a pivotal role in planning and executing various fundraising events for the Province’s ministries located in Detroit and Milwaukee. These special events are integral to raising essential funds that sustain the Province’s outreach activities, while simultaneously nurturing relationships with existing donors and engaging the broader community in the mission.

The role requires a high level of organizational skill, creativity, and a passion for service aligned with the Province's mission. The Special Events Manager will oversee the entire event lifecycle—from conceptual planning through logistics, volunteer coordination, marketing initiatives, and final execution. Collaborating closely with volunteer committees, contracted vendors, and internal development staff, the manager ensures every event meets its fundraising goals and reflects the values and spirituality of the Province.

Key responsibilities include managing timelines, budgets, marketing collateral, sponsorship solicitations, auction coordination, and vendor relations. The manager will also act as the primary liaison for third-party event planners and support fundraising events in both Detroit and Milwaukee, requiring travel and flexibility in scheduling. Additionally, this role demands compliance with legal and regulatory standards applicable to nonprofit fundraising events.

Ideal candidates will possess a bachelor’s degree, preferably in marketing, public relations, or a related field, along with three to five years of nonprofit fundraising or development experience, including event management. Familiarity with donor tracking software such as Raiser's Edge and proficiency in Microsoft Office are essential. The ability to work effectively within a faith-based organization, embrace the values of Franciscan spirituality, and collaborate with a diverse population is crucial. Candidates should demonstrate excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills, and show a welcoming and professional demeanor.

In return for their commitment, the Province offers a competitive salary range of $68,000 to $73,000 per year along with a comprehensive benefits package. This includes medical, dental, and vision insurance; life and disability coverage; tuition assistance; an employee assistance program; a traditional pension plan and 403(b) retirement savings; plus generous paid time off and holidays. The work environment is in-person, ensuring the candidate can engage directly with teams and community partners.

Joining the Province of St. Joseph of the Capuchin Order as a Special Events Manager is not only a career opportunity but a chance to make a meaningful impact within a faith-driven community dedicated to social justice and care for the marginalized. This role invites candidates who aspire to use their professional skills to advance a noble cause that honors the legacy of St. Francis of Assisi and supports a lasting mission of compassion and justice.
