Job Description
The City of Kentwood is a vibrant and growing community dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for its residents through exceptional public services and community engagement. The Parks and Recreation Department of Kentwood plays a pivotal role in fostering community spirit by organizing a wide variety of recreational programs, maintaining green spaces and trails, and hosting numerous community events throughout the year. With 15 parks spanning over 300 acres, more than 13 miles of non-motorized trails, as well as facilities like splashpads, pickleball courts, playgrounds, and rental venues, Kentwood provides residents with ample opportunities to connect, play, and thrive. The department also manages over a thousand programs and events annually, creating countless chances for people of all ages to engage in activities that promote wellness, fun, and social interaction. The City of Kentwood is currently seeking a Special Events Coordinator to join this dynamic team and contribute to the ongoing mission of building a lively and connected community.
As a Special Events Coordinator for the Kentwood Parks and Recreation Department, you will play a critical role in bringing community events to life. Your primary responsibility will be the end-to-end planning, coordination, and execution of various indoor and outdoor special events that enrich community life. This position demands a detail-oriented and creative professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and excels at managing multiple projects simultaneously. You will handle all facets of event production, including logistics management, budgeting, vendor coordination, staffing, and participant communication to ensure smooth and successful experiences.
In addition to logistical oversight, you will be instrumental in cultivating positive community interactions by delivering exceptional customer service and creating welcoming atmospheres for event attendees. This role also involves managing and supervising event staff and volunteers, monitoring event outcomes through participation tracking and feedback collection, and resolving any operational challenges that arise. We value innovation and proactive problem-solving, so your ability to identify opportunities for improvement and implement effective solutions will be highly regarded.
The position offers competitive hourly pay ranging from $25.99 to $33.20, depending on experience, alongside comprehensive benefits including a generous employer retirement contribution, paid time off, medical and dental insurance, paid parental leave, and more. Working as a Special Events Coordinator for Kentwood means joining a passionate team committed to creating memorable experiences that strengthen community bonds and enhance overall well-being. This role is ideal for someone who is enthusiastic about community service, enjoys teamwork, and is eager to make a tangible difference in the lives of Kentwood residents through exceptional event management.
