Job Description

The City of Miami Springs, a vibrant and community-focused municipality located in Florida, is renowned for its dedication to enhancing the quality of life for its residents through diverse and engaging programs. As a dynamic city government, it actively promotes cultural events, recreational activities, and community engagement. The City of Miami Springs prides itself on fostering strong partnerships between local businesses, schools, organizations, and residents to create meaningful experiences and maintain a safe, welcoming environment. With a commitment to excellence and inclusivity, the city offers a comprehensive range of services aimed at supporting a healthy and active community. Its proactive approach to city management and events planning reflects a forward-thinking vision that values citizen participation and high-quality public services.

The City of Miami Springs is currently seeking a dedicated and experienced professional to join its team as a Special Events and Recreation Program Coordinator. This full-time position offers a competitive salary and benefits package, including participation in the City of Miami Springs General Employees' Pension Plan. The role is designed for a proactive individual who excels in planning, coordinating, and implementing a variety of special events and recreational programs. This includes significant responsibility for seasonal programs such as summer camps, holiday camps, and school break activities that cater to diverse age groups within the community.

The Special Events and Recreation Program Coordinator is expected to bring strong organizational skills and creativity to the development and execution of city-sponsored events and recreational programs. Key responsibilities include devising detailed event and camp timelines, managing logistics plans, and preparing staffing schedules to ensure smooth operations. The position requires securing permits, contracts, and vendors in accordance with city policies, as well as coordinating event setup, operations, and breakdown. Financial oversight is a critical component, involving monitoring budgets, tracking expenditures, and ensuring accurate financial documentation.

The role also necessitates collaboration on marketing strategies to boost program visibility and engagement. This involves creating and distributing promotional materials via social media, flyers, email campaigns, and the city's website. Building and maintaining strong community partnerships with organizations, schools, and local businesses further enhances program success. Leadership qualities are essential for recruiting, training, supervising, and scheduling part-time staff and volunteers. Compliance with safety procedures and risk management policies is mandatory, alongside providing on-site operational leadership during events and recreational programs.

Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to community service through excellent customer satisfaction monitoring and program evaluation. Preparation of post-event reports and seasonal program assessments completes the comprehensive scope of duties. The City of Miami Springs values employees who are flexible in scheduling, as frequent evening, weekend, and holiday work is an intrinsic part of the job due to program and event requirements. Applicants are encouraged to provide detailed work experience and a current resume summarizing their qualifications, education, and relevant background. The city is an equal opportunity employer dedicated to fostering an inclusive workplace free of discrimination. It supports individuals with disabilities through reasonable accommodations and maintains a strict alcohol and drug-free work environment.
