Job Description
Chartwells Higher Education is a leading provider of on-campus dining services, operating in over 300 college and university locations across the United States. The company is committed to reinventing the campus dining experience by investing in innovative, food-forward social spaces designed to foster community interaction and enrich student life. Embedded within the mission of Chartwells Higher Education is a dedication not only to serving delicious, high-quality food but also to creating environments where students, faculty, and guests can connect meaningfully. This aligns with the organization’s broader goal of supporting student success both inside and outside the classroom through nourishing meals and exceptional dining experiences.
At Baylor University in Waco, TX, Chartwells operates Penland Dining Hall, known as one of the most vibrant and fast-paced dining destinations on campus. Penland Dining Hall is more than just a place to eat; it is a dynamic gathering space where innovation in culinary arts meets the diverse needs and preferences of a modern student body. Chartwells Higher Education is currently hiring for the vital role of Executive Sous Chef at this location. The position is a full-time opportunity that offers a rich blend of culinary leadership, team management, and operational responsibilities.
As the Executive Sous Chef, you will work directly with the Executive Chef to oversee all kitchen operations, ensuring a consistent standard of culinary excellence and a clean, safe work environment. You will be instrumental in managing an energetic culinary team responsible for producing a range of dishes, from health-conscious, fresh offerings to made-to-order favorites, all prepared in adherence to the company’s corporate program and food safety guidelines. Your role will emphasize creative food preparation, efficient production, and cost management, reinforcing Chartwells’ commitment to quality and guest satisfaction.
This role demands a proactive leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is adept at managing multiple kitchen stations. The Executive Sous Chef supports menu development, implements new culinary initiatives in partnership with marketing and culinary teams, and mentors kitchen staff to grow their skills and motivation. Your contribution will directly impact the guest experience, helping to cultivate a positive, inclusive culture that reflects Baylor’s campus community values.
Additionally, the position offers an opportunity to work with a diverse, passionate team dedicated to culinary innovation and excellence. Chartwells Higher Education values associates who are hungry for success, humble in their approach, and smart in their decision-making—qualities that will empower you to develop your career and make a meaningful difference. The company offers competitive compensation and a comprehensive benefits package, ensuring that associates are well-supported in their professional and personal lives. Joining Chartwells at Baylor University means becoming part of a respected organization that prioritizes equity, diversity, and inclusion in every facet of its operations.
