Job Description

Compass Group, a global leader in foodservice management, is currently hiring for a full-time Sous Chef position located at CAP Tulsa in Tulsa, Oklahoma. With a strong presence across over 300 communities, Flik Independent School Dining (FISD), a division of Compass Group, has been pioneering the transformation of private and independent school foodservice for over four decades. This branch is renowned for its commitment to delivering exceptional dining experiences that emphasize fresh, locally sourced ingredients and sustainable agricultural practices that enrich the communities they serve. The company not only provides nutritious meals but also integrates cutting-edge nutrition education programs that empower students to make healthy and informed choices every day. By nurturing the whole person and fostering community through great food and educational programming, FISD helps cultivate a healthier future for students and their families.

The Sous Chef role is a vital part of this vision, as the successful candidate will assist the Executive Chef in preparing and cooking food while overseeing kitchen operations and staff on their behalf. This position demands a hands-on approach to culinary excellence and leadership, ensuring that all food products meet approved recipes and high production standards. The Sous Chef will coordinate daily activities of cooks and other food-service associates, guarantee strict adherence to food safety and sanitation procedures, and maintain cleanliness and orderliness in the kitchen environment.

The role includes supervising hourly employees – conducting interviews, scheduling, payroll management, staff training, counseling, and participating in performance reviews with the authority to recommend disciplinary actions as necessary. The Sous Chef is also responsible for handling customer interactions in a professional manner to resolve complaints and relay relevant issues to supervisors. Mastery of menu items and the ability to communicate their details effectively to staff and customers is essential for success in this position.

This full-time position offers a competitive pay rate of $23.00 to $25.00 per hour, with a flexible schedule that may vary in hours and days, details of which will be shared during the interview process. Employees benefit from free meals, uniforms, and laundering service available at select locations. Moreover, the company fosters an inclusive work culture driven by diversity of thought and equal opportunity employment, ensuring every associate is treated fairly and respectfully regardless of background or identity.

Joining Compass Group as a Sous Chef means becoming part of a dynamic team dedicated to nourishing a brighter future through superior foodservice and community engagement. The role is ideal for culinary professionals with previous experience in sous chef or lead cook positions who are passionate about food quality, team leadership, and sustainable dining practices. Candidates will have the opportunity to work in a supportive environment that values safety, innovation, and continuous improvement. Furthermore, Compass Group provides extensive benefits, including retirement plans, health and wellness programs, various insurance options, and employee discounts, creating a comprehensive employment package.

This position operates in a fast-paced environment where the ability to manage inventory, track food production and waste, maintain peak performance during busy service hours, and ensure compliance with all corporate, state, and federal regulations is critical. The Sous Chef supports the Executive Chef in all kitchen functions and assumes full responsibility in their absence, ensuring seamless operations and quality food production at all times. This role is an excellent career opportunity for dedicated culinary professionals seeking to advance their skills and contribute meaningfully to a company committed to excellence and community impact.
