Job Description

Located within the Winding Commons at 6017 Winding Way, Carmichael, CA, Morrison Living is actively seeking a full-time Sous Chef to join their culinary team. This position offers a full-time schedule from Monday to Friday, from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, with a fixed hourly pay rate of $23.00.

The Sous Chef role at Morrison Living is integral to the success of the culinary operations. As the key support to the Executive Chef, the Sous Chef is responsible for preparing and cooking food according to approved recipes and production standards while coordinating the activities of cooks and other food-service associates. This position demands strong leadership as it involves supervising hourly food service staff, managing scheduling, payroll, training, and handling various personnel matters including counseling and performance reviews. The Sous Chef assumes full responsibility for the kitchen and food-service associates in the absence of the Executive Chef, ensuring seamless operations and maintaining the highest standards of food quality and safety.

In this role, the Sous Chef will oversee food storage practices, adhering strictly to corporate, state, and federal food safety guidelines. The position requires meticulous attention to detail in food handling, presentation, portion control, and temperature maintenance to guarantee an exceptional dining experience for customers. Additionally, maintaining sanitation and cleanliness of equipment and workstations is a crucial aspect of the job, ensuring compliance with safety and merchandising standards during meal services. Job Duties

  • cooks and prepares food following approved recipes and production standards
  • ensures all deadlines are met based on production orders
  • supervises hourly food service associates including interviewing, scheduling, payroll, training, counseling, participating in reviews and recommending disciplinary action
  • stores food in designated areas following all corporate, state and federal food safety and sanitation procedures
  • ensures proper food handling, presentation, portion control and maintenance of appropriate serving temperatures
  • maintains sanitation of equipment, supplies and utensils
  • cleans workstation thoroughly before leaving area
  • keeps display equipment clean and free of debris during meal service to comply with all sanitation, safety, production and merchandising requirements
  • interacts with customers to resolve complaints in a friendly, service-oriented manner
  • relays relevant information directly to supervisor
  • demonstrates complete understanding of daily menu items and accurately explains them to associates and customers
  • keeps up with peak production and service hours
  • monitors inventory and deliveries of product and supplies
  • tracks product production, consumption and waste
  • informs supervisor when supplies or product are low
  • performs other duties as assigned
