Job Description
Episcopal SeniorLife Communities is a respected organization dedicated to providing high-quality senior care services ranging from skilled nursing and restorative care to housing, assisted living, and community-based wellness programs. The organization prides itself on its personalized, culturally competent approach to care, recognizing and addressing each individual's unique needs. Episcopal SeniorLife Communities also emphasizes support for families and loved ones during their transitions, making it a compassionate and holistic community to work for and be a part of. Their mission, "Life. Inspired Every Day," reflects their commitment to enriching the lives of residents through dedicated service and high standards of care. Brentland Woods, part of this esteemed community, offers a full-time opportunity for a skilled culinary professional dedicated to excellence in food service for senior residents. This position is based on a schedule from Saturday through Wednesday, 9:30 am to 5:30 pm, with a competitive starting pay of $23.50 hourly.
The role of the Cook Supervisor at Brentland Woods is integral to the community’s dining services. The chosen candidate will be responsible for preparing a variety of entrees, starches, vegetables, salads, pastries, desserts, sauces, soups, and stocks, all following classical culinary methods and standardized recipes. This role requires the assembly of food for lunch, dinner, snacks, and the next day’s continental breakfast, ensuring that each meal meets the highest standards of quality, safety, and resident satisfaction. Beyond food preparation, the Cook Supervisor will maintain the cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, including food storage and dishwashing duties. This position also entails supervisory responsibilities—acting as the lead in the absence of the Chef Manager, directing kitchen staff during meal service and preparation, and upholding departmental policies and dress standards.
Committed to excellence and compliance, the Cook Supervisor will prepare all items according to facility guidelines and regulatory standards set by the New York State Department of Health and Monroe County Health Department. Ongoing communication with residents via association or food committee meetings is encouraged to gather feedback and improve dining experiences. Attendance at chef and production meetings ensures that kitchen operations run smoothly and that any concerns, problems, or plans are promptly addressed. The Cook Supervisor must possess strong leadership, culinary skills, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively with team members. This demanding role requires attention to detail, knowledge of safe food handling practices, and the ability to interact courteously with residents, families, visitors, and staff. Given the physical nature of the work, candidates should be capable of standing and walking for extended periods, lifting up to 30 pounds safely, and managing the often warm environment of a busy kitchen. Episcopal SeniorLife Communities values safety, confidentiality, and compliance, ensuring that all employees are well-trained in safety policies and maintain the privacy of sensitive information.
Overall, this position offers an enriching opportunity to be part of a community dedicated to senior well-being while exercising culinary expertise and leadership skills in a supportive, respectful work environment. If you have a passion for food service excellence and a commitment to serving the senior population, consider joining Episcopal SeniorLife Communities at Brentland Woods as their Cook Supervisor.
