The Sous Chef position at Saint Mary's School in Raleigh, North Carolina, is a full-time opportunity with a schedule primarily from Monday to Friday, 7:00 am to 3:00 pm, though weekend work may occasionally be required. This role is pivotal in helping the Executive Chef prepare and cook foods and coordinates the activities of cooks and other food-service associates. The Sous Chef assumes responsibility for kitchen operations and the team in the Executive Chef’s absence. FISD offers a competitive hourly wage ranging from $20.00 to $21.00, along with valuable perks like provided meals and uniforms. The position involves supervising associates, managing food inventory and ordering, maintaining safety and sanitation standards, and ensuring that all meals meet high-quality production standards. Job Requirements

  • Prior supervisory, lead, inventory, and ordering experience is preferred
  • Ability to work full-time schedule Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 3:00 pm
  • Availability to work weekends as needed
  • Ability to meet food safety and sanitation standards
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively

Job Qualifications

  • Prior supervisory experience in food service
  • Experience in inventory management and ordering
  • Strong knowledge of food safety and sanitation procedures
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills
  • Ability to prepare and cook food according to established recipes and standards
  • Customer service experience
  • Ability to work flexible hours including possible weekends
  • Experience in training and developing staff

Job Duties

  • Cooks and prepares food following approved recipes and production standards
  • Ensures all deadlines are met based on production orders
  • Supervises hourly food service associates, including interviewing, scheduling, payroll, training, counseling, participating in reviews, and recommending disciplinary action as appropriate
  • Stores food in designated areas following all corporate, state, and federal food safety and sanitation procedures
  • Ensures proper food handling, presentation, portion control, and maintenance of appropriate serving temperatures
  • Maintains sanitation of equipment, supplies, and utensils
  • Cleans workstation thoroughly before leaving area
  • Keeps display equipment clean and free of debris during meal service
  • Interacts with customers to resolve complaints in a friendly, service-oriented manner
  • Relays relevant information directly to supervisor
  • Demonstrates complete understanding of daily menu items and accurately explains them to associates and customers
  • Keeps up with peak production and service hours
  • Monitors inventory and deliveries of product and supplies
  • Tracks product production, consumption, and waste
  • Informs supervisor when supplies or product are low
  • Performs other duties as assigned
