We are currently hiring a full-time Sous Chef to join the food service team at Baylor University. This role is key in maintaining high culinary standards, supporting the Executive Chef, and ensuring that the kitchen operates smoothly and efficiently. This position requires open availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, reflecting the dynamic nature of campus dining schedules. The hourly pay ranges from $18.00 to $18.90, highlighting the competitive compensation for this important role. The Sous Chef will take responsibility for food preparation, supervising kitchen staff, maintaining safety and sanitation standards, and ensuring exceptional food quality that meets approved recipes and production guidelines.
The Sous Chef will actively engage in the daily management of kitchen operations, stepping in for the Executive Chef when necessary. This includes overseeing food service associates' schedules, ensuring proper inventory control, and handling customer interactions with professionalism and care. Job Duties
- Cook and prepare food following approved recipes and production standards
- ensure all deadlines are met based on production orders
- supervise hourly food service associates including interviewing, scheduling, payroll, training, counseling, and recommending disciplinary action as appropriate
- store food in designated areas following corporate, state, and federal food safety and sanitation procedures
- ensure proper food handling, presentation, portion control, and maintenance of appropriate serving temperatures
- maintain sanitation of equipment, supplies, and utensils and clean workstation thoroughly before leaving area
- interact with customers to resolve complaints in a friendly, service-oriented manner
- demonstrate complete understanding of daily menu items and accurately explain them to associates and customers
- keep up with peak production and service hours
- monitor inventory and deliveries of product and supplies
- track product production, consumption and waste
- inform supervisor when supplies or product are low
- perform other duties as assigned
