The opportunity at hand is for a full-time Sous Chef position located at General Dynamics in Phoenix, Arizona. This role is pivotal in supporting the Executive Chef by assisting with food preparation and cooking, as well as overseeing the activities of cooks and other food service associates within the kitchen environment. The Sous Chef acts with significant leadership responsibility, stepping in for the Executive Chef as needed and ensuring smooth kitchen operations. The schedule for this position runs Monday through Friday, from 6:00 am to 3:00 pm, and comes with a competitive pay range of $26.00 to $29.00 per hour.

This position requires prior experience specifically in banquets, mass production, catering, and sous chef duties. Candidates must also be prepared to complete a chef test as part of the hiring process. In their role, the Sous Chef must ensure that all food is prepared according to approved recipes and production standards, maintaining high quality and safety standards throughout. The Sous Chef is also responsible for food safety, proper storage, inventory monitoring, and maintaining sanitation protocols of all kitchen equipment and work areas. Customer interaction to resolve complaints politely and efficiently is also a crucial aspect of this role.

Job Requirements

  • Sous chef experience in banquets, mass production, and catering required

Job Duties

  • Cooks and prepares food following approved recipes and production standards
  • Ensures all deadlines are met based on production orders
  • Supervises hourly food service associates including interviewing, scheduling, payroll, training, counseling, performance reviews, and recommending disciplinary actions
  • Stores food in designated areas in compliance with all food safety and sanitation procedures
  • Ensures proper food handling, presentation, portion control, and appropriate serving temperatures
  • Maintains sanitation of equipment, supplies, and utensils and cleans workstations before leaving
  • Interacts with customers to resolve complaints in a friendly and service-oriented manner
  • Monitors inventory and deliveries of products and supplies and informs supervisor when items are low
  • Performs other duties as assigned
