The role of Sous Chef at Forbici Modern Italian is a critical leadership position within the kitchen hierarchy. Reporting directly to the Executive Chef, the Sous Chef plays a pivotal role in maintaining the highest standards of food quality, preparation, and kitchen operation. This is a full-time position that demands flexibility, leadership, and culinary expertise to oversee daily kitchen operations and ensure a seamless dining experience for guests. The Sous Chef will manage food production, safety, sanitation, and kitchen staff while fostering a collaborative environment. Candidates are expected to bring at least three years of experience in a similar volume-based and upscale dining environment. Key responsibilities include supervising kitchen activities, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations, collaborating with various departments, and managing both staff and resources efficiently. The position requires robust communication skills, discretion in managing employee relations, and proficiency with technology such as point-of-sale systems, scheduling software, and event management tools.

Job Requirements

  • Three plus years of experience working as sous chef in a similar volume-based business
  • Ability to demonstrate discretion and leadership in complex employee relations matters
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office, events/catering software, timekeeping/scheduling systems and point-of-sale systems
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating and communicating across all levels of an organization
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Able to understand, speak and follow written and verbal instruction in English
  • Must be able to obtain manager food safety certifications
  • Flexible and dependable to work full-time day or night shifts, weekends and holidays, up to 50 hours per week
  • Culinary degree preferred
