The Sous Chef position at Holliday Farms Senior Living, located in Zionsville, Indiana, offers an exciting career opportunity for culinary professionals passionate about senior living cuisine and team leadership. This full-time role provides a competitive hourly wage starting between $30.00 and $34.00. The Sous Chef will work Tuesday through Saturday from 11:30 am to 7:30 pm, leading the culinary operations to ensure exceptional dining experiences for residents. The Sous Chef is not only a skilled food preparer but also a kitchen supervisor and a team leader responsible for upholding culinary standards, managing food quality and safety, and inspiring the culinary team through coaching and accountability.
Key responsibilities include ensuring all food items are prepared to the highest culinary standards while controlling portions and minimizing waste. The Sous Chef will supervise and inspect all culinary service facets, including maintaining logs, ensuring equipment cleanliness, and overseeing proper food storage rotation. Leading daily kitchen operations, the Sous Chef will foster an engaging, respectful environment that motivates team members and maintains service excellence. This role demands active physical involvement requiring someone who enjoys standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 50 pounds regularly.
Candidates should bring demonstrated skills and leadership experience in culinary management or related fields, ideally with a background in senior housing or food service. Formal culinary education or equivalent supervisory experience is preferred, alongside proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and communication tools like email. The role also requires a criminal background clearance and a willingness to work sometimes outdoors for events, offering a dynamic work environment.

Job Requirements
- must be at least eighteen years of age
- ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and stoop all day
- ability to frequently lift and/or move items up to 50 pounds
- comfortable working in close contact with extreme temperatures including cooking surfaces and walk-in freezers
- able to work primarily indoors and occasionally outdoors for events
- criminal background clearance
- willingness to work Tuesday through Saturday from 11:30 am to 7:30 pm
Job Qualifications
- formal culinary, food service or restaurant training or equivalent full-time supervisory or management-level work experience
- demonstrated skills, knowledge, and competency in leadership, training, and supervision
- proficient written and oral communication skills
- experience in senior housing or related field preferred
- computer proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
- ability to send, receive, and forward email
Job Duties
- ensure food items are prepared to culinary standards and provide residents with an exceptional dining experience while maintaining portion control and minimizing waste
- supervise and inspect all aspects of culinary service including logs, cooking equipment, storage rotation, and food service for cleanliness and safety
- lead team in day-to-day operations through engagement, maintaining expectations, coaching and accountability
- maintain kitchen sanitation standards and ensure compliance with health regulations
- plan and coordinate menu modifications and special event meals
- manage inventory and order supplies to ensure kitchen is well-stocked
- train and mentor culinary staff to enhance skills and performance
