Job Description
Wellstar Health System is one of the most integrated and comprehensive healthcare providers in Georgia. With a mission to enhance the health and well-being of every person they serve, Wellstar has built a reputation for excellence and compassionate care through the dedication of their expert professionals. The system is committed to fostering a workplace environment where contributions and ideas are valued, creating a culture of respect, inclusivity, and continuous improvement. Known for providing top-tier healthcare services, Wellstar prioritizes patient safety, quality, and satisfactory outcomes, making it a trusted name among communities in the region.
The role of the Sous Chef at Wellstar is a crucial position within their food service and nutrition department, specifically designed to support healthcare operations through high-quality culinary service. This full-time position is focused on training and managing kitchen personnel, assisting in the overall management of kitchen operations, and ensuring compliance with strict food handling, sanitation, and safety standards required in a healthcare environment. The Sous Chef plays a vital role in maintaining the seamless preparation and delivery of nutritious, delicious meals for patients, retail customers, and satellite service areas.
This role demands a deep passion for culinary arts combined with an understanding of the unique requirements of preparing food for healthcare patients, many of whom may have weakened or compromised immune systems. The Sous Chef must maintain adherence to all local health department guidelines and federal food safety regulations, such as Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP). Additionally, the person in this position will oversee all activities related to inventory control, food procurement, budget monitoring, and ensuring that culinary team members meet established quality and productivity standards.
Key responsibilities include managing staff performance through interviewing, coaching, counseling, and disciplinary actions in compliance with human resources policies. The Sous Chef will lead food preparation efforts for various service lines including patient meal service, cafeteria retail operations, and catering. They will also assist the Executive Chef and step in during their absence to maintain smooth daily operations.
The successful candidate will be adept at handling multiple priorities in a fast-paced, high-volume setting. They should have strong skills in menu planning, recipe adherence, and production methods including conventional and cook-chill techniques. The role requires excellent communication skills to promote a collaborative, team-oriented environment and to ensure customer satisfaction through memorable patient and customer experiences.
Wellstar offers a supportive work environment where employees are encouraged to pursue excellence and contribute their ideas toward continuous improvement. This position is ideal for culinary professionals looking to apply their expertise in a healthcare setting and grow within a respected health system that values integrity, compassion, and innovation.
