The role of Sous Chef at Atria Senior Living is essential to the Dining Services team, where culinary expertise and leadership skills combine to ensure the delivery of nutritious, appealing, and delightfully prepared meals to residents. This position requires a keen eye for detail in food preparation following established recipes and standards, particularly when preparing Holiday menus, while maintaining strict portion-control standards to manage resources wisely. The Sous Chef oversees the preparation and presentation of meals to guarantee they are both appetizing and served punctually, maintaining the highest quality of service.

A critical responsibility in this role is adherence to food safety and sanitation protocols, including proper food handling, covering, labeling, dating, and storage procedures to meet health and safety standards. The Sous Chef is also accountable for maintaining accurate and timely logs for refrigeration, freezer, and production records, ensuring operational transparency and efficiency.

In the absence of the Executive Chef, the Sous Chef assumes leadership for the entire kitchen staff and operations, demonstrating their capability to manage personnel and seamlessly run the kitchen. Resident satisfaction is a top priority, and the Sous Chef addresses any food-related complaints promptly and effectively to uphold Atria’s standards of excellence.

Administrative tasks are a part of the Sous Chef’s responsibilities, including menu planning, ordering and receiving supplies, processing invoices, managing inventory, completing end-of-month reports, and handling staffing and payroll when necessary. This position is hourly, with a wage range of $24.00 to $27.60 per hour dependent on the candidate’s prior work history and experience. Job Duties

  • Review menus and food-production instructions and prepare meals following Holiday menus and recipes while ensuring portion-control standards
  • Oversee preparation and set-up of service to serve nutritious food attractively garnished in a punctual manner
  • Follow food safe handling procedures in preparation as well as proper procedures for covering, labeling, dating, and storing food
  • Accurately complete logs in a timely manner i.e., refrigerator, freezer and production sheets
  • Follow Holiday sanitation standards by effectively cleaning while working, including preparation and serving areas, pots and pans, kitchen surfaces, walls, and floors, using appropriate cleaning schedules and charts
  • In absence of the Executive Chef, oversee the food service staff and overall kitchen operations
  • Focus on resident satisfaction and resolve any food-compliant issues as needed
  • Perform administrative duties including menu planning, ordering, receiving, invoice processing, inventory, end-of-month report, staffing and payroll if needed
