Job Requirements

  • 2+ years practical experience as a Sous Chef
  • strong cleanliness and organizational skills
  • computer literacy in Microsoft Word, Excel, and web-based systems
  • ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume kitchen
  • capability to work all kitchen stations
  • ability to provide and receive constructive feedback
  • maintain strong working relationships with management and staff
  • excellent supervisory and communication skills
  • ability to perform physical tasks including lifting up to 50 pounds and standing for long periods
  • flexibility to work any shift
  • bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in food preparation, management, nutrition, or related field preferred
  • Sous Chef certification preferred
  • proven supervisory experience in a culinary setting
  • strong communication and guest service skills
  • computer literacy including Microsoft Word, Excel, and web-based ordering systems
  • ability to work in all kitchen stations
  • experience managing food and labor costs
  • ability to train and develop kitchen staff
  • capacity to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment

Job Duties

  • Make periodic inspections to observe quality of food preparation and service
  • assist in coordinating training and development activities for kitchen staff
  • develop recipes and portion specifications according to company standards
  • assist in preparing operational reports and analyses
  • ensure consistent food preparation and adherence to recipes and serving standards
  • assist in employment decisions including interviewing and hiring
  • provide orientation and training for new kitchen employees
  • fill in to maintain exceptional guest service and efficient operations
  • prepare required paperwork including forms, reports, and schedules
  • maintain cleanliness and working condition of kitchen equipment
  • plan and price menu items with Executive Chef and General Manager
  • ensure proper ordering and receiving of food products
  • control food cost and waste
  • oversee timely completion of employee performance appraisals
  • schedule labor according to business activity
  • train staff in safe operation of kitchen equipment
  • maintain sanitation and cleanliness standards
  • check and maintain food holding and refrigeration temperatures
  • provide safety training including first aid and CPR
  • perform additional duties as assigned
