The role of Sous Chef at Brickstone Brewhouse is a critical leadership position within the culinary team. Serving as the Executive Chef's right hand, the Sous Chef oversees daily kitchen operations, ensuring that every plate leaving the kitchen reflects the restaurant’s commitment to quality, taste, and presentation. This role requires a proactive supervisor who can mentor kitchen staff, maintain inventory control, and uphold strict health and safety regulations. The Sous Chef is also responsible for helping in staff recruitment, training, and scheduling, working closely with the Executive Chef to foster a cohesive and motivated team.
Beyond supervising and managing the kitchen staff, the Sous Chef actively contributes to menu development by collaborating with the culinary team to craft dishes that excite and satisfy customers. Job Requirements
- At least 3 years of experience in a professional kitchen with at least 1 year in a supervisory role
- Strong understanding of culinary techniques and kitchen operations
- Frequently stand walk and lift up to 25 pounds
- Occasionally lift up to 50 pounds and perform tasks requiring stooping or reaching
- Ability to work long shifts in a high-heat fast-paced environment
- Leadership skills with the ability to mentor and inspire the kitchen team
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Creative problem-solving and a passion for delivering exceptional food
Job Qualifications
- Culinary degree or equivalent training
- ServSafe or equivalent food safety certification
- Experience in high-volume or upscale casual dining
- Strong understanding of culinary techniques and kitchen operations
- Leadership skills with the ability to mentor and inspire the kitchen team
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Creative problem-solving and a passion for delivering exceptional food
Job Duties
- Supervise and mentor kitchen staff ensuring proper preparation and presentation of all dishes
- Assist in hiring training and scheduling kitchen employees
- Maintain open communication with the Executive Chef and provide updates on kitchen performance
- Ensure all dishes meet Brickstone standards for quality taste and presentation
- Work closely with the team to develop and execute menu items
- Monitor inventory levels and assist in ordering supplies as needed
- Help manage food costs by minimizing waste and ensuring proper portioning
- Enforce all health and safety regulations ensuring compliance with local state and federal laws
- Conduct regular kitchen inspections and maintain cleanliness standards
