The role of Sous Chef at Mecha is a critical leadership position within the kitchen and back-of-house operations. The Sous Chef is charged with preparing and directing the preparation of food to be served, ensuring compliance with all applicable sanitation, health, and personal hygiene standards. This role requires an individual with strong culinary skills, attention to detail, and the ability to oversee and motivate a kitchen team effectively. The Sous Chef will be responsible for managing kitchen operations in accordance with established food production programs and procedures, guaranteeing the efficient use of facility supplies and equipment to minimize loss, waste, and fraud.

This full-time position emphasizes operational oversight, quality control, and team leadership. The successful candidate will oversee the stocking, ordering, and purchasing of ingredients, ensuring everything is fresh and available while minimizing spoilage. The Sous Chef will also maintain kitchen equipment and utensils, advising on repairs or replacements as necessary. They will foster a productive and positive work environment, ensuring that all kitchen activities align with health, safety, and hygiene regulations, aiming to maintain a Department of Health (DOH) score of 95 or better.

Further responsibilities of the Sous Chef include keeping the workspace tidy and clean, performing food temperature checks before service, and engaging directly in food preparation tasks when necessary. The role demands a proactive approach to problem-solving and leadership, often requiring the individual to work alongside the culinary team on the line, during prep times, and during quality control checks. The Sous Chef needs to be physically capable of meeting the demands of a busy kitchen, including the ability to stand, walk, reach, and occasionally lift up to 40 pounds, while maintaining close vision and attention to detail. Job Duties

  • Oversees the operations of the kitchen and back-of-house, ensuring that food is prepared safely, efficiently, and according to Mecha specifications or request
  • Oversees stocking, ordering, and purchasing of ingredients, ensuring that necessary ingredients are available and as fresh as possible while also minimizing spoilage and waste
  • Maintains and inspects kitchen equipment and utensils, recommending repairs or replacements as needed
  • Motivates team to create a productive and positive work environment
  • Ensures kitchen runs in accordance with all applicable health, safety, and hygiene codes and standards
  • Maintains a DOH score of 95 or better
  • Keeping work area neat and clean at all times
  • Cleaning and maintaining equipment used in food preparation

  • Performing other work-related duties as assigned including working the line, doing prep, and executing quality control
