Open Door Mission (ODM) is a well-established Gospel Rescue Mission founded in 1954, dedicated to breaking the cycles of homelessness and poverty within the community. Located on its Omaha campus, ODM operates as a full-time Christian ministry focused on providing compassionate care and essential services to individuals and families experiencing homelessness and economic hardship. Job Requirements
- A visible relationship with Christ and ability to share the gospel
- A regular attendee of a local Christian church
- Proficient in general computer operations
- 2+ years of culinary education or experience
- Experience cooking for large groups of people
- A high level of flexibility and creativity in cooking
Job Qualifications
- Experience in scratch cooking and baking
- Experience operating a large variety of kitchen equipment
- Good communication skills, and ability to speak to volunteers/donors about the mission of ODM and our current needs
- Experience directing others and holding them accountable
Job Duties
- Prepare meals for ODM's dining hall/cafeteria alongside the Hospitality Manager (Head Chef), Kitchen Associate, and other staff/volunteers
- Direct and encourage volunteers from the community as well as current ODM residents assisting in the kitchen
- Use a creative mindset to properly utilize donated food products in creation of recipes and menus
- Ensure the kitchen is kept clean and safe, maintaining ODM's "Excellent" rating from the health department
- Oversee the kitchen in the absence of the Hospitality Manager
- Exemplify Christ and share the gospel as opportunities arise
