Job Description
Missouri State University is a well-established educational institution located at 901 South National Avenue in Springfield, Missouri. The university is known for its commitment to providing quality education and fostering a supportive community environment for its students, staff, and faculty. As part of its extensive campus facilities, Missouri State University offers a variety of food services to ensure that students and employees have access to nutritious and satisfying meals throughout the academic year.
The university is currently seeking to fill full-time Baker positions within its food service team. These full-time roles offer a competitive hourly wage ranging from $20.00 to $25.00 and come with valuable benefits, including full-time health benefits and meals included during shifts. The scheduling is designed to accommodate varied hours, including some nights and weekends, with more details provided during the interview process. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong background in supervisory roles within a kitchen setting and have at least three years of prior cooking or chef experience, preferably with knowledge of large scale kitchen operations.
The Baker position at Missouri State University plays a crucial role in the culinary team, supporting the Executive Chef in preparing and cooking a variety of foods according to approved recipes and production standards. This position is designed for individuals who are passionate about food preparation and possess excellent leadership skills, as they will also be responsible for coordinating the activities of other cooks and food-service associates. In the Executive Chef's absence, they assume responsibility for managing the kitchen and all food-service personnel, ensuring operational efficiency and maintaining high standards of food safety and sanitation.
This opportunity is ideal for those who enjoy working in a dynamic environment focused on teamwork and continuous learning. The role requires the candidate to work closely with fellow kitchen staff to meet production deadlines, maintain proper food handling and presentation, and uphold portion control and serving temperatures. In addition to food preparation duties, the Baker supervises hourly employees, including conducting interviews, scheduling, managing payroll, training new staff, counseling, participating in performance reviews, and recommending disciplinary actions when appropriate.
Candidates will also be expected to maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the kitchen environment, ensuring that equipment, utensils, and workstations are properly cleaned and free of debris. This attention to detail promotes a safe and sanitary food service operation. Interaction with customers is also part of the role, requiring a friendly and service-oriented approach to resolve any complaints and relay necessary information to supervisors.
Given the educational setting, this role offers a unique environment where candidates can contribute to the campus community's well-being by providing high-quality food services. The position supports the university's commitment to employee growth and empowerment, offering opportunities for training and development and fostering a workplace culture that values diversity and inclusion. Missouri State University’s food services team is a part of Compass Group, a leading food service management company dedicated to creating meaningful impacts through its career opportunities.
This position offers stability as a full-time role with benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability insurance, commuter benefits, and employee assistance programs. The university also encourages associates to take advantage of various voluntary benefits such as pet insurance, identity theft protection, and critical illness insurance. Employees may be eligible for paid and unpaid time off benefits in alignment with federal, state, and local laws. While there may be periods without work during academic breaks, opportunities for work at alternate locations may be available.
Missouri State University values fairness and equitable treatment, maintaining a drug-free workplace and ensuring all applicants are considered based on merit regardless of race, national origin, gender, age, disability, veteran status, or any other legally protected status. Individuals interested in making a difference within a vibrant campus food service team are encouraged to apply. The university offers a welcoming environment alongside competitive wages and a supportive employer who invests in the careers and growth of their employees.
