The role of Sous Chef at Sunrise of North Scottsdale is pivotal to the success of our dining services operations. This leadership position involves assisting the Executive Chef in managing all phases of food production and presentation, ensuring adherence to the highest standards of quality, safety, and nutrition. The Sous Chef will lead a team of dining services staff through coaching and supervision and play an integral part in financial management, including food cost control and labor management. This role demands strict compliance with all federal, state, and local food safety regulations, including HACCP standards.

Beyond operational duties, the Sous Chef at Sunrise will actively engage with residents to enhance their dining experience, demonstrating a commitment to customer satisfaction and community engagement. Responsibilities also include overseeing special events, managing record keeping for sanitation and food safety, and ensuring proper training and development of team members. Candidates will be expected to maintain certifications such as Food Services Sanitation and ServeSafe, and exhibit strong computer literacy with proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant Sunrise applications.

Job Requirements

  • Certification or college degree in culinary arts preferred
  • Minimum three years experience as a Chef or Kitchen Manager
  • Two years supervisory and management experience
  • Current Food Services Sanitation certificate
  • ServeSafe certified
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and related applications
  • Ability to work weekends, evenings, and flexible hours
  • Commitment to safety procedures and regulatory compliance
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of resident information
  • Successful completion of pre-employment drug test, tuberculosis test, background check, and physical evaluation as required
  • COVID-19 and influenza vaccination if mandated by law

Job Qualifications

  • Certification or college degree in culinary arts preferred
  • Minimum three years experience as a Chef or Kitchen Manager
  • Two years supervisory and management experience including hiring, coaching, performance management, discipline, and counseling
  • Current Food Services Sanitation certificate
  • ServeSafe certified
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Sunrise applications
  • Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and evenings
  • Valid driver’s license and understanding of driver safety duties if applicable

Job Duties

  • Lead overall food production, food presentation, and supervision of dining services team members and labor management
  • Demonstrate knowledge and provide leadership in nutrition and therapeutic diets
  • Support and adhere to product order guide and vendor programs
  • Ensure all meals and serving portions meet Sunrise quality service standards
  • Implement cost and portion control procedures
  • Facilitate training in food production, presentation, and sanitation
  • Monitor food quality, cooking methods, plating, garnishing, and service delivery
  • Ensure HACCP compliance
  • Oversee special and catering events including Bistro and Banquets
  • Maintain records for food and equipment temperature, cleaning checklists, and FIFO food rotation
  • Promote resident engagement and monitor satisfaction during mealtimes
  • Protect confidentiality of resident information
  • Ensure adherence to occupational health, safety, and risk management policies
  • Assist in department budgeting and labor cost management
  • Deliver and participate in training programs
  • Coach and supervise team members
  • Maintain compliance with state and federal regulations
  • Perform other duties as assigned
