The role of a Sous Chef at Carle Health is an essential leadership position within the culinary department, functioning closely under the direction of the Executive Chef. This position carries significant responsibility, including assisting in the creation and implementation of menus and culinary concepts that meet the dietary needs and preferences of patients and diners. The Sous Chef plays a pivotal role in managing kitchen operations, ensuring food quality, presentation, and portion control while leading and mentoring kitchen staff. Job Requirements
- Associate's degree in culinary arts
- Certificate of completion in culinary arts
- Certified Food Protection Manager within 3 months
- ANSI accredited Food Handler Training within 30 days
- Relevant work experience
- Ability to lead and manage kitchen staff
- Strong organizational and communication skills

Job Duties
- Support Executive Chef by managing, planning, and directing food preparation with kitchen staff to ensure proper preparation
- Ensure that food leaving the kitchen is of the highest quality and meets patient and diner satisfaction
- Ensure correct portioning and attractive plating of food
- Exhibit strong leadership by being familiar with daily kitchen operations and performing any necessary task
- Act as intermediary between kitchen and functions ensuring strong communication
- Ensure all kitchen staff perform at a professional level
- Coach team members and support leadership during investigations
- Train new team members and create schedules to maintain adequate kitchen staffing
