The role of the Sous Chef at Snow Canyon Retirement offers a unique and exciting opportunity for culinary professionals who are passionate about delivering high-quality, nutritious, and appealing meals that cater to the needs of elderly residents. The Sous Chef reports directly to the Dining Services Director and plays a critical role in supporting the kitchen's smooth and efficient operation. This full-time position pays between $26.00 and $30.00 per hour and comes with an extensive benefits package designed to support the well-being and professional growth of the successful candidate.

In this role, the Sous Chef is responsible for preparing delicious dishes using high-quality ingredients, adhering to proper recipes and portion sizes to ensure consistency and control costs effectively. They will be required to monitor food temperatures during storage, preparation, cooking, and serving to ensure safety and quality. The Sous Chef must keep all food properly labeled, dated, and stored, maintaining strict compliance with state and local health regulations to guarantee a clean, safe, and sanitary kitchen environment. The position requires excellent organizational skills to check inventory and maintain adequate supplies, as well as the physical ability to perform general kitchen cleaning, including washing equipment and managing waste disposal.

The candidate will also take on leadership responsibilities when the Dining Services Director or Executive Chef is absent, including ordering supplies, menu writing, and scheduling associates. The ideal Sous Chef is a team player who fosters a positive work environment through cooperation and clear communication. This role not only involves culinary preparation but also participation in resident-centered activities and team projects to enhance the living experience at Snow Canyon Retirement. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum two years cooking experience preferably within the healthcare or hospitality field
  • Serv-Safe certification
  • Physical ability to communicate by speaking, seeing, and hearing sufficient to serve the residents
  • Must be free of communicable disease
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English
  • Ability to relate to residents and associates in a courteous and diplomatic manner
  • Completion of drug testing and criminal record background check upon hire and upon request of supervisor
  • Physical ability to bend, stand, lift, stoop, sit, walk, stretch, and lift/carry up to 40 pounds
  • Adhere to and carry out all policies and procedures

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum two years cooking experience preferably within the healthcare or hospitality field
  • Serv-Safe certification
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English
  • Ability to relate to residents and associates in a courteous and diplomatic manner
  • Professional and neat appearance
  • Completion of drug testing and criminal record background check upon hire

Job Duties

  • Prepare and serve all food items using high quality ingredients and appropriate garnishes
  • Use recipes and correct portion sizes to provide a consistent product while controlling costs
  • Record and monitor food temperatures during storage, preparation, cooking, and serving
  • Label, date, and properly store all foods
  • Monitor and record temperatures of all kitchen refrigerators and freezers daily
  • Control overproduction and waste of all food items
  • Comply with all state and local rules and regulations for a clean, safe, and sanitary kitchen
