The 32nd Avenue Building hosts the Nutrition Services Department, a vital part of Essentia Health's commitment to holistic patient care. The Sous Chef position within the Nutrition Services Department at the 32nd Avenue Building is a critical culinary role responsible for the creative development and production of superior food products. This role requires expertise in large and small-scale cooking, baking, food preparation, and the visual presentation of meals. The Sous Chef will work closely with kitchen staff to ensure all food items are prepared according to standardized recipes, maintaining consistency and quality at every service.

Key responsibilities include planning and coordinating the timely flow of food ingredients from storerooms, freezers, and pre-preparation areas to facilitate efficient recipe production. The Sous Chef will also manage procurement of food and supplies, overseeing inventory to support uninterrupted kitchen operations. Collaboration with management staff is crucial to achieving strategic goals within the department, focusing on quality improvement, adherence to food safety regulations, and departmental efficiency.

This position offers a full-time equivalent of 1. The shift schedule includes day and evening rotations with weekend and holiday work, reflecting the department's commitment to continuous service. The role does not have call obligations and is not part of a union. The compensation range for this position is between $20.46 and $30.69 per hour, reflecting the expertise and experience required.

Job Requirements

  • Graduate of a 2 year culinary arts program or equivalent experience
  • minimum 1 year work experience in a relevant culinary position or 3 years experience as a sous chef
  • Serv Safe certification within 90 days of hire
  • ability to follow standardized recipes and HACCP procedures
  • capability to manage food procurement and inventory
  • willingness to work day and evening shift rotations including weekends and holidays
  • ability to collaborate effectively with management and kitchen staff

Job Qualifications

  • Graduate of a 2 year culinary arts program with 1 year work experience or 3 years minimum work experience in a sous chef position
  • Serv Safe Certified within 90 days of hire or transfer
