Job Description

RiverWoods Exeter is part of the RiverWoods Group, Northern New England's largest family of Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRCs). Since its inception in 1994, RiverWoods has been committed to its founding philosophy of making things better for people every day. This vibrant community is dedicated to fostering an environment that uplifts and supports its residents, employees, and board members alike, ensuring a life filled with camaraderie, peace of mind, and purpose. RiverWoods Exeter specifically offers an exceptional living experience for older adults who seek not just accommodation but a rewarding and productive lifestyle as they age. The community's culinary services play a crucial role in delivering this quality experience with menus and meal execution rivaling those of 4 or 5-star hotels.

The Sous Chef position at RiverWoods Exeter represents a dynamic and unique opportunity for culinary professionals who are passionate about excellence and innovation in food preparation. This role is designed not only to manage and support everyday culinary operations but also to contribute creatively to menu development, ensuring fresh, high-quality meals made from scratch for residents and guests. The Sous Chef collaborates closely with the Executive Chef and the culinary team to plan, forecast, and oversee the food production process, guaranteeing that each meal is prepared to perfection and served promptly. Because the role involves floating through different kitchens within the community as needed, it offers diverse experiences and the chance to develop a versatile skill set in various culinary environments. The typical working schedule is Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., with some flexibility for earlier shifts depending on operational demands.

At RiverWoods Exeter, culinary staff are encouraged to apply their creativity and technical expertise to innovate and refine recipes, with a strong emphasis on using fresh ingredients to craft the best possible dining experiences. The community also values continuous learning and development, offering access to wellness programs, educational assistance including tuition reimbursement, and an employee meal program that supports staff wellbeing. The Sous Chef will actively participate in daily production meetings, provide hands-on training to team members, and engage with a resident-run Dining Committee to incorporate feedback and enhance service quality. This is a full-time role with comprehensive benefits designed to support career growth, health, and work-life balance, including medical and dental coverage starting within 30 days, a 403(b) retirement plan with company matching, paid time off, holidays, and personal days. In addition, RiverWoods promotes convenient payroll access through partnerships like DailyPay and fosters a supportive community atmosphere with on-site fitness opportunities. This position offers a fulfilling path for culinary professionals seeking to elevate their careers while making a meaningful impact on the lives of others in a respected and well-established organization.
