The Sous Chef role at Charlestown is a crucial leadership position within the culinary department, responsible for supporting the Signature Dining Programs that the community offers to its residents. In this leadership capacity, the Sous Chef supervises the scheduling, training, and discipline of culinary and utility staff. They manage daily kitchen production, ensuring timely and quality preparation of meals while upholding strict standards for food safety, handling, and dietary accommodations. the Sous Chef also takes charge of kitchen and dining area sanitation, maintaining a safe and clean environment. This position requires maintaining organization in storage and loading dock areas to keep operations running efficiently.

Candidates for this role need a minimum of three years of full-service kitchen experience and at least six months in a supervisory or coaching position. They should be willing and able to work some weekends and holidays and demonstrate physical capability to lift or move objects weighing up to 50 pounds and work under temperature extremes present in kitchen environments. Job Duties

  • Supervises the scheduling, training, and discipline of all culinary and utility staff
  • oversees all culinary functions in the Chef's absence, including staffing, food production, utility management, and kitchen sanitation
  • manages daily kitchen production and food preparation to ensure timely service of resident meals
  • directs the preparation and service of all menu items, including adherence to recipes, proper food handling, food safety, quality, dietary restrictions, and production forecasts
  • oversees the organization and sanitation of dining rooms, kitchen, storage areas, and loading dock
