This position is for a Sous Chef within this dynamic and caring organization. The Sous Chef plays a critical leadership role in ensuring the culinary operation delivers superior dining experiences that meet the highest standards. Reporting to the Director of Culinary Services, the Sous Chef assists with planning, organizing, and overseeing kitchen activities. This role requires strong expertise in food preparation, kitchen management, menu development, and culinary team leadership. The candidate will be responsible for supervising, training, and coaching kitchen staff while managing budgets, inventory, and compliance with all food safety laws. The Sous Chef actively supports the enhancement of dining services through innovative menu offerings and efficient operational workflows. This full-time position offers a salary range of $65,000 to $70,000 per year, reflecting the importance of delivering quality, consistency, and excellence in meal service at a senior living community.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required
  • Culinary degree preferred
  • Minimum of five (5) years cooking experience in the hospitality or healthcare industry, with at least two (2) years of supervisory experience
  • Food handlers permit as required by state law and/or Company standards
  • Proven experience managing kitchen budgets (food, supplies, labor)
  • Strong organizational, time management, and leadership skills
  • Previous banquet and/or special event planning experience preferred
  • Proficient with basic computer skills (Microsoft Word and Excel)
  • Ability to work varied schedules, including weekends, evenings, and holidays
  • Ability to delegate tasks efficiently and hold team members accountable
  • Connect and help residents transition from home to community through thoughtful engagement at every level of interaction
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with team members, coworkers, and residents

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Provide high levels of customer service and create a fine dining experience
  • Lead and supervise kitchen staff to ensure a consistently high standard of food quality, preparation, and presentation
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and performance evaluations for kitchen team members
  • Assist in interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and training new culinary staff
  • Maintain a strong sense of teamwork and a positive, professional kitchen culture
  • Develop staff work schedules to align with operational needs and budget guidelines
  • Assist in menu planning and execution based on resident preferences, seasonal availability, and budgetary considerations
