We are seeking a skilled and experienced Sous Chef to join our dynamic team in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This is a full-time onsite position within our high-volume, high-end catering commissary. The ideal candidate will bring at least three years of catering experience, coupled with substantial culinary management expertise, to lead and inspire a talented team of foodservice professionals. As Sous Chef, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing daily kitchen operations, menu development, quality control, and staff mentorship while ensuring adherence to established safety, sanitation, and corporate compliance standards.

In this role, you will be entrusted with directing daily preparation of both standard and gourmet food items, ensuring the highest quality in raw ingredients and finished products. Responsibilities include routine inspections to maintain cleanliness and sanitation across production and service areas, maintaining inventory controls for food and supplies, and managing budgets to meet financial goals. Your leadership will extend to interviewing, hiring, onboarding, training, and ongoing supervision of kitchen staff, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment. This position offers a competitive compensation package with a salary up to $85,000, alongside a comprehensive benefits program inclusive of medical, dental, vision, 401(k), paid time off, and more.

Job Requirements

  • Three years of catering experience
  • culinary management experience of three to five years
  • strong leadership, oral and written communication skills

  • culinary arts degree or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred

Job Duties

  • Develop menus in accordance with consumer tastes, nutritional needs, ease of preparation and established procedures and budgetary constraints
  • participate in other menu planning activities including determination of purchasing specifications, product and recipe testing and menu development
  • maintain proper production, safety and sanitation standards, and corporate compliance
  • direct, supervise, and participate in the daily preparation of standard and gourmet food items
  • evaluate the quality of raw food and ensure the quality of finished products
  • conduct routine inspections to observe quality of food preparation and appearance, cleanliness and sanitation of production and service areas, equipment, and employee appearance
  • follow Constellation's Standard Operating Procedures on production, ordering, receiving, inventory
  • manage SOPs daily, kitchen production, quality control, and presentation
  • maintain proper inventory controls for food, supplies, and equipment
  • interview, hire, onboard, train new employees, and mentor and supervise current staff
  • control inventory and expenses to ensure financial goals
  • ensure the highest level of customer service
  • perform other duties as assigned
