The role of the Sous Chef is crucial for overseeing and coordinating the daily activities and operations of the cooks and other kitchen employees involved in food preparation and cooking. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring that all culinary processes are carried out with precision, creativity, and consistency, maintaining the highest standards of quality and presentation.\n\nAs a Sous Chef, you will be responsible for training and developing kitchen staff, including cooks and kitchen assistants, ensuring the importance of consistency in food preparation and presentation is upheld. You will establish and coordinate kitchen schedules, prepare workflows, and expedite kitchen operations daily to maintain smooth service. Maintaining adherence to portion control, plate presentation, and food quality is essential to meet both company standards and customer expectations consistently. Your leadership will be integral in holding employees accountable for personal hygiene and appearance, and ensuring cleanliness in all working, storage, and refrigeration areas within the kitchen.\n\nFurther responsibilities include monitoring stock levels and quality, managing kitchen expenses including food costs and labor, and ensuring compliance with all relevant labor laws. You will also assist in the hiring, training, and motivation of the kitchen staff to foster a productive and enthusiastic team environment. Regular completion of reports and documentation forms is part of your duties to maintain transparency and operational efficiency. This role demands versatility, strong organizational skills, acute attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced kitchen environment. Job Duties

  • Train and develop kitchen staff
  • train cooks/kitchen staff in the importance of consistency in preparation and presentation

  • ensure that level of quality, portion control, and plate presentation is adhered to consistently
  • assist with hiring, training, and motivating kitchen staff
  • prepare a variety of cuisine utilizing skill and creativity
  • hold employees accountable for personal hygiene and appearance
  • regularly check all working areas of cooks and utilities, including storage areas, refrigerators, and dust bins for cleanliness
  • organize and implement weekly staff schedules
  • ensure all necessary reports and forms are completed daily
  • monitor stock levels and stock quality
  • utilize labor effectively to meet budgets
  • keep close watch on food costs and other kitchen expenses
  • enforce all labor laws (federal, state and local)
  • perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor
