Job Requirements

  • High school graduate or GED
  • Three to five years of related experience
  • Ability to organize and follow written and verbal instructions
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Willingness to work full-time in a healthcare setting
  • Ability to comply with safety and sanitation regulations
  • Capability to lead and motivate a culinary team
  • Strong problem-solving abilities

Job Duties

  • Ensure department is achieving standards and goals
  • Provide staff training and development
  • Assist chef in training and developing cooks
  • Assist chef in performing timely and accurate employee performance appraisals
  • Ensure equipment is repaired in a timely manner
  • Demonstrate management and leadership skills
  • Give instructions professionally and effectively to employees
  • Complete projects timely
  • Ensure employees practice safety techniques and complete incident reports promptly
  • Achieve effective sanitation and infection control techniques meeting JCAHO, State and City Health Department requirements
  • Recommend and implement improvements within the department
  • Enforce hospital and departmental policies and administer appropriate discipline
  • Maintain and enhance employee morale
  • Collaborate with Nutritional Service Manager on ordering
  • Develop quality patient, cafe, and catering menus and recipes with the chef
  • Achieve strong staff engagement and patient satisfaction
  • Assist in departmental and hospital performance improvement programs
  • Investigate and resolve issues timely
  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the department
  • Support hospital and departmental policies
  • Pursue personal development through education
  • Maintain cooperative working relationships with Department Management Team including Director, Chief Clinical Dietitian, and supervisors
  • Perform other related functions as assigned
