The Sous Chef position at Arrow Senior Living is a pivotal role within their culinary department, aimed at enhancing the dining experience of senior residents while maintaining high culinary standards. The Sous Chef acts as the Gustatory Genius, Kitchen Curator, and Culinary Captain, encapsulating responsibilities that include preparing food items to the highest culinary standards, ensuring exceptional meal quality, portion control, and waste reduction. This role oversees the cleanliness and organization of cooking equipment, storage, and food service areas to uphold rigorous sanitary standards. Leading the culinary team on a daily basis, the Sous Chef fosters engagement, maintains operational expectations, coaches team members, and holds them accountable for their duties. Working primarily indoors with occasional outdoor event support, this role demands physical stamina, leadership acumen, and a passion for delivering outstanding food service in a senior housing setting. The scheduled shifts are Monday through Thursday and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., providing a structured work week that supports work-life balance. Job Requirements

  • At least 18 years of age
  • Completion of formal culinary, food service, or restaurant training or equivalent full-time supervisory or management-level experience
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and stoop for extended periods
  • Ability to frequently lift and move items up to 50 pounds
  • Comfortable working in close proximity to extreme temperatures including cooking surfaces and walk-in freezers
  • Availability to work primarily indoors with occasional outdoor event support
  • Criminal background clearance
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Word, Excel, and email
  • Physical stamina to meet the job demands
  • Must be able to work full-time shift Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Job Qualifications

  • Formal culinary training or equivalent supervisory or management-level work experience
  • At least three years of experience in senior housing or a related field preferred
  • Demonstrated skills, knowledge, and competency in leadership, training, and supervision
  • Proficient written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to create, modify, and print word processing and spreadsheet documents using Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Comfortable using email for communication
  • Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team

Job Duties

  • Ensure food items are prepared to culinary standards and provide residents with an exceptional dining experience while maintaining portion control and minimizing waste
  • Supervise and inspect all aspects of culinary service including logs, cooking equipment, storage rotation, and food service regularly to ensure they are up-to-date, clean, and sanitary
  • Lead team in day-to-day operations through engagement, maintaining expectations, coaching and accountability
  • Oversee kitchen staff to ensure compliance with safety and health regulations
  • Manage inventory levels and order supplies as needed
  • Assist in menu planning and implementation
  • Coordinate events and special dining experiences for residents
