Job Description

Montage International is a distinguished luxury hospitality company known for its commitment to delivering extraordinary, personalized, and authentic guest experiences. The company operates renowned brands such as Montage Hotels & Resorts and Pendry Hotels, which have established a reputation for excellence in service, innovative culinary offerings, and sophisticated accommodations. Montage International believes in fostering a strong culture where employees are encouraged to do what they love and to bring their passions to life. This approach not only contributes to their guests' satisfaction but also to the growth and fulfillment of their associates.

Pendry Hotels, a prominent brand under Montage International, embodies an energetic and creative work environment that values all associates as key contributors to its success. At Pendry, the culture is built on empowerment, creativity, and career growth, offering an inspiring workplace where teamwork, passion, and fun are core to everyday operations. This environment is designed to cultivate personal and professional development, enabling employees to thrive and contribute meaningfully to creating authentic and memorable experiences for guests. Pendry proudly provides reasonable accommodations to applicants with disabilities and promotes inclusivity and diversity in its workforce.

The Sommelier role at Pendry is more than just a job – it is an opportunity to turn a passion for wine and spirits into a rewarding career. The Sommelier is an expert in fine wines and beverages, tasked with elevating the guest experience through personalized wine service, education, and mentorship within the food and beverage team. Reporting to the beverage management, the Sommelier plays a crucial role in both direct guest interaction and team development. With a competitive starting wage of $16.90 per hour, this role offers a dynamic position within a luxury hospitality brand, emphasizing the balance of luxury service and approachable, enthusiastic engagement with guests and colleagues alike.

In this role, you will guide guests through carefully curated wine selections, providing detailed descriptions and insightful recommendations tailored to compliment menu offerings and guest preferences. Beyond guest service, you will be responsible for mentoring bartenders, servers, and other associates, helping them improve their knowledge of wine regions, grape varietals, flavor profiles, and wine pairing techniques. This mentorship includes conducting training sessions, tastings, and ongoing support to ensure exemplary wine service standards are maintained.

The Sommelier also oversees the wine cellar management, ensuring optimal conditions such as temperature and humidity are maintained to preserve the integrity and quality of the wine collection. Inventory management is also key, involving regular audits and tracking of wine aging and cellar rotation to maximize profitability while minimizing waste. Collaborative efforts with restaurant management to control beverage costs and pricing are vital to the overall success of the beverage program.

This role requires a flexible schedule including weekends and holidays, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively within a team environment. While prior experience in food and beverage operations is important, opportunities for professional development and certification, such as those provided by the Guild of Sommeliers, are highly encouraged.

At Pendry and Montage International, associates enjoy a comprehensive benefits package that includes free meals, uniforms, community outreach events, hotel discounts, healthcare benefits, and a 401k retirement plan with company matching. The company also emphasizes physical wellness and hygiene, expecting associates to maintain mobility and endurance for extended periods, as well as the ability to lift up to 50 pounds during shifts.

Montage International and Pendry Hotels are committed to equal employment opportunity and maintaining a drug-free workplace. They value diversity and inclusivity, ensuring all qualified applicants are considered without regard to race, religion, sex, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, or veteran status. The Sommelier position offers a meaningful career path where passion meets profession, making it an ideal opportunity for those looking to excel in luxury hospitality and beverage service.
