Job Description
Eataly is the world’s largest artisanal Italian food and beverage marketplace, renowned for offering an authentic experience that blends culinary excellence with Italian cultural heritage. Unlike a chain, each Eataly location carries its own unique character and theme, reflecting the local flavor and community while upholding the company’s core mission. Visitors to Eataly can indulge in authentic Italian food at a variety of restaurants, cafés, and to-go counters. They can shop from a curated selection of high-quality Italian, local, and homemade products, ensuring a rich and genuine taste of Italy at home. Additionally, guests have the opportunity to learn through hands-on classes and by engaging with the knowledgeable Eataly team, further enriching their culinary experience.
The sommelier role at Eataly embodies the passion and expertise vital to the company’s beverage service. Within the restaurants, the beverage program is as integral as the food menu, showcasing a broad and carefully selected range of premium and unique Italian wines and drinks at all price points. The sommelier is instrumental in sharing wine knowledge, educating guests, and making tailored beverage recommendations that enhance the dining experience. Reporting directly to the Restaurant General Manager and Beverage Manager, this position demands a professional who exemplifies both wine expertise and exemplary customer service. The sommelier is tasked with managing the wine cellar, maintaining inventory and cellar pars, and ensuring that wines reaching critical age are promptly sold. The role also involves supporting the service team in guiding wine selections and pairings, providing regular training to servers, managers, and chefs to ensure consistent and knowledgeable service.
Furthermore, the sommelier ensures smooth operations by updating the restaurant’s POS system to align with menu pricing, keeping the cellar well-stocked and organized for weekly service, and collaborating with the kitchen to identify wine-friendly ingredients. The position requires a commitment to quality, demonstrated by managing returns of corked or spoiled wines to suppliers for refunds. This role offers a competitive pay rate starting at $18.70 per hour plus tips, along with a comprehensive benefits package. Eataly values diversity and inclusivity, maintaining a nondiscriminatory hiring policy and providing necessary accommodations for applicants. This role is perfect for those with a deep appreciation of Italian wines and cuisine, excellent interpersonal skills, and the flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, in a vibrant and dynamic environment.
