Job Description
Maroon is an exceptional dining establishment deeply rooted in the rich history and culture of the Jamaican Maroons. This unique restaurant stands as a tribute to the spirit of resilience, resourcefulness, and determination that characterizes the Maroons' history. These attributes are mirrored in the origins of jerk cooking, which itself emerged as a method born from survival, adaptation, and ingenuity. Maroon offers guests not just a meal, but an immersive cultural experience that honors identity and empowers communities through culinary excellence and storytelling.
At the helm of Maroon is Chef Kwame Onwuachi, a James Beard Award-winning American chef acclaimed for his bold and innovative expression of Afro-Caribbean and West African influenced cuisine. Chef Kwame is dedicated to more than serving food; his mission includes creating spaces that connect guests to a larger narrative about culture and heritage. This makes Maroon a distinctive and meaningful place to work, where staff contribute to a larger cultural mission through their commitment to service and excellence.
The role being offered is critical in maintaining the high standards and smooth operation of Maroon's beverage service. The position focuses on teamwork, guest engagement, and maintaining professionalism, which are integral to the restaurant's reputation and guest satisfaction. Responsibilities include managing inventory levels of wines and beverages, ordering supplies, supervising junior sommeliers, and ensuring beverage service standards are met throughout service hours. The individual will also have a hands-on role in wine service, working closely with the culinary team and management to address guest needs effectively.
This position demands a person who is collaborative, guest-oriented, and highly professional. The ideal candidate must exhibit a 'yes' attitude, always placing the guest first while encouraging a positive and respectful team environment. This role also requires meticulous attention to the setup and evaluation of beverages, the maintenance of point-of-sale systems, and continuous training and supervision of staff to uphold service quality. A strong sense of urgency and dedication is essential for successfully meeting the dynamic demands of this VIP-driven and guest service-focused environment.
Applicants should expect to be a key part of a vibrant team that works in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment. The position offers a chance to grow under the guidance of a renowned chef and contribute meaningfully to a culinary concept that is both culturally significant and innovative. The chance to work in such an environment not only enhances one's professional skills but also offers a unique opportunity to be part of a visionary culinary movement committed to diversity, empowerment, and excellence.
