Job Description
Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills is a prestigious luxury hotel located in the heart of Beverly Hills, known for its exquisite service and elegant ambiance. As a Forbes 5-Star and AAA 5-Diamond property, the hotel offers 170 lavish guest rooms, 6,300 square feet of versatile banquet space, and four distinct dining venues. Among these are a new Italian Tuscan Steakhouse, a rooftop restaurant with breathtaking views, a sophisticated lobby lounge, and high-end in-room dining options. The Waldorf Astoria brand is recognized worldwide for its commitment to creating unforgettable guest experiences, fostering meaningful opportunities for employees, and positively impacting the local community. This ethos is deeply embedded in every aspect of the hotel's operations.
The role of Sommelier at Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills is a unique opportunity to join the Food and Beverage team at this iconic establishment. The Sommelier will have primary responsibility for curating, managing, and elevating the hotel’s world-class wine program, with a special focus on Italian wines and luxury selections. This full-time position offers a competitive pay rate of $26.49 per hour plus 1.5 percent of wine sales, reflecting the candidate's expertise and specialized knowledge. The schedule is varied, requiring availability on weekdays, weekends, and holidays to meet the demands of this vibrant hospitality environment.
As the Sommelier, you will guide guests through exceptional wine experiences, recommending exquisite pairings that complement the hotel’s refined cuisine, particularly aligned with the new Baldi Tuscan Steakhouse’s authentic Italian theme. The role involves maintaining an organized and meticulously managed wine cellar, responsible inventory control, and replenishing exclusive wine selections. You will play a vital role in merchandising high-margin and rare wines, actively driving wine sales through guest interaction and educational initiatives.
Training is also a key part of this role: you will educate front-of-house staff in proper wine service techniques and responsible alcohol service, conducting tasting sessions and workshops to enhance their knowledge and skills. Collaborating closely with the Beverage Director and Executive Chef, you will help design and update a dynamic wine list that keeps pace with seasonal menus and regional Italian authenticity. Additionally, the Sommelier will be instrumental in hosting wine dinners, special tastings, and promotional events, thereby elevating the hotel's brand and cultivating a loyal clientele.
Operational excellence is paramount; responsibilities include managing glassware and wine service tools, assisting with point-of-sale updates, ensuring label accuracy, and partnering with marketing to promote wine events and seasonal releases. Every guest interaction is guided by the Waldorf Astoria's commitment to Forbes Five-Star service standards, blending expert wine knowledge with intuitive hospitality.
