Job Requirements

  • Experience as a Sommelier, Wine Steward/Stewardess or similar role
  • certification as a Sommelier or degree in hospitality is a plus
  • work cards required including Sheriffs, TAM, and Health Card
  • ability to traverse all parts of the restaurant quickly
  • ability to stand for prolonged periods of time including entire shifts
  • ability to intermittently sit at a desk and work on a computer
  • ability to read and visually verify information in a variety of formats including small print
  • ability to lift at least 50 pounds with assistance if more
  • ability to visually inspect tools, equipment, or machines to identify defects
  • ability to move quickly turning from left to right and right to left
  • ability to reach overhead and below the knees including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping
  • ability to be mobile in walk-in refrigerator and freezer environments with temperatures ranging from 40 degrees F to -10 degrees F
  • availability to work during opening hours including weekends and holidays

Job Qualifications

  • Ability to create tasteful food and wine pairings
  • extensive knowledge of different wines and which regions produce each type
  • knowledge of local vineyards and wineries
  • understanding of the winemaking process
  • good communication skills
  • availability to work during opening hours including weekends and holidays
  • flexibility to travel occasionally to meet with wine producers and visit wine-tasting events
  • experience as a Sommelier, Wine Steward/Stewardess or similar role
  • certification as a Sommelier or degree in hospitality is a plus
  • work cards required including Sheriffs, TAM, and Health Card

Job Duties

  • Creating and updating the wine list in coordination with chefs and the Food and Beverage Manager
  • recommending food and wine pairings
  • advising guests on wines based on their personal tastes and food choices
  • informing guests about different varieties of wines and prices
  • ensuring wines are served at the right temperature and within the proper glassware
  • storing open bottles properly to maintain strong taste
  • managing wine cellar and ensuring it is fully-stocked
  • training wait staff on available wines
  • asking guests for ID to verify legal drinking age
  • complying with all health and safety regulations
  • performing any other job duties assigned
