Job Description
Jonathan Club is a prestigious private social club located in Downtown Los Angeles, renowned for its rich history, luxurious amenities, and commitment to fostering a vibrant community among its members. Established over a century ago, Jonathan Club offers an exclusive blend of fine dining, recreational activities, and social events, catering to the diverse interests and lifestyles of its members. The Club boasts two primary clubhouses: the Town Club in Downtown Los Angeles and the Beach Club, each providing exceptional service, elegant settings, and an array of facilities designed to enrich the lives of its members. At the Jonathan Club, core values such as Family, Community, Wellness, Respect, and Passion drive the mission to deliver extraordinary experiences that build lasting relationships and celebrate the culture of connection and celebration within the club environment.
The Jonathan Club Town Club is currently seeking a distinguished Sommelier / Manager to lead and elevate the wine culture and dining experience at its flagship property. This role offers an exciting opportunity to join an esteemed hospitality institution that values tradition, innovation, and member satisfaction equally. The Sommelier / Manager role is a highly visible leadership position that requires an individual who blends strategic cellar management with hands-on dining room presence. The successful candidate will curate a compelling, member-focused wine program, drive wine education and service standards among the dining staff, and serve as an engaged floor leader during busy service periods. Beyond wine expertise, this position demands leadership capability to shape how wine enhances social connection and celebration, fostering a welcoming atmosphere that supports community within the Club.
Key responsibilities of this role include overseeing wine program design and execution, training and developing staff on wine knowledge and service practices, and partnering with other departments to create immersive and memorable wine experiences that delight members. The Sommelier / Manager will build meaningful relationships with members, anticipating their preferences and needs, thereby contributing to the overall dining experience excellence. The role requires balancing strategic vision with daily operational leadership, including maintaining high service standards, managing labor efficiently, ensuring compliance with club policies and Collective Bargaining Agreement guidelines, and monitoring financial performance related to beverage sales.
This position offers an attractive salary range between $85,000 and $95,000 annually and is eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, reflecting the importance of this role within the Club. The position requires flexibility, as weekend and holiday availability is necessary to support the Club’s service demands. Jonathan Club prides itself on its inclusive and welcoming culture, adhering to equal opportunity employment policies and fostering a workplace environment that respects diversity across all dimensions, including gender identity, sexual orientation, disability status, and veteran status.
