Job Description

Hawksmoor is a distinguished restaurant located in an iconic National Historic Landmark building known as The United Charities Building, established in 1893. The role available at Hawksmoor is for a Sommelier who will report directly to the Bar/Beverage Manager and the Lead Sommelier. This position is perfect for a passionate professional eager to contribute to the successful execution and maintenance of Hawksmoor’s distinguished wine program in New York City. The Sommelier will play a vital role in ensuring that the service and hospitality standards remain consistently high, demonstrating comprehensive expertise in the complete wine offering as well as other related beverage products. As a strong presence on the front of house floor, the Sommelier will support the team and help enhance the overall guest experience.

Candidates for this position must bring extensive industry experience, preferably from some of the best bars and restaurants in New York. Experience with launching and opening restaurants and bars in New York or elsewhere in the US is highly desirable, reflecting an ability to thrive in fast-paced, high-volume environments marked by substantial seating and revenue capacity. Strong interpersonal skills are essential, enabling harmonious collaboration with diverse departmental teams. The ideal Sommelier also has exemplary product knowledge, particularly regarding food and beverage, with a focused expertise in wine. Job Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years experience as a sommelier or in a similar role
  • proven track record in high-volume hospitality environments
  • strong knowledge of wine regions, varieties, and service techniques
  • excellent customer service skills
  • ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • strong teamwork and collaboration abilities
  • valid work authorization for employment in the US

Job Qualifications

  • Extensive experience working in some of the best bars and restaurants in New York
  • experience launching and opening restaurants and bars in New York and the US
  • comfortable and experienced with high volume businesses in terms of both covers and revenue
  • good interpersonal skills and ability to work harmoniously with all departments
  • exemplary product knowledge of food and beverage and specifically wine
  • strong communication and presentation skills
  • relevant sommelier certification

Job Duties

  • Successfully executing the Hawksmoor wine programme in NYC
  • supporting the Lead Sommelier in running and maintaining the wine programme in NYC
  • ensure service and hospitality standards are high and consistent through good understanding of the full wine programme and all other products
  • being a strong presence on the floor supporting the Front of House team
  • assisting with training and developing staff on wine knowledge
  • managing wine inventory and liaising with suppliers
  • contributing to wine events and tastings
