Working as a Sommelier means being a vital part of creating memorable moments by curating and enhancing the beverage experience for guests in various settings, including outlets, lounges, and banquet functions. This role involves guiding guests through the wine selection process, offering expert recommendations that complement their menu choices, and sharing engaging stories and insights about the wines featured. Additionally, the Sommelier is responsible for mentoring and educating fellow team members to elevate their knowledge and service skills, maintaining the wine cellar with strict attention to optimal storage conditions, and collaborating with management on beverage costs and pricing. The position is designed for individuals who are passionate about the art and science of wines and spirits, personable, trustworthy, and eager to grow both personally and professionally. The Sommelier must be dedicated to delivering WOW moments to guests while working within a team-oriented, luxury hospitality environment. This role provides a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays, and the compensation starts at $18.00 per hour. Job Qualifications

  • Certificate of completion from the Guild of Sommeliers a plus
  • one year minimum experience in food and beverage operations a plus
  • prior micros or other systems experience a plus
  • luxury hotel experience a plus
  • passion for spirits, wine, and food

Job Duties

  • Assist in administering the sale of beverages in outlet, lounge, and banquet functions
  • teach and mentor bartenders, servers, and other associates involved in the sale of alcoholic beverages
  • guide guests through the wine list, offering detailed descriptions and recommendations
  • engage guests in discussions about wine, answering questions and sharing insights
  • educate associates about wine regions, grape varietals, flavor profiles, and food pairings through training sessions and tastings
  • conduct associate training on wine service standards including proper decanting, pouring, and presentation techniques
  • provide ongoing mentorship and support to develop the wine knowledge and service skills of team members
  • maintain the wine cellar in optimal condition ensuring proper temperature, humidity, and storage
  • conduct regular inventory audits, monitor wine aging, and track cellar rotation
  • work with restaurant management to oversee beverage costs and pricing
  • maintain wine and cocktail lists with bartenders and beverage managers
  • attend daily pre-shift meetings
  • deliver on guests' expectations and create WOW moments
  • perform additional duties as assigned based on business needs
