Job Description
Jonathan Club is a prestigious private social club located in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles, known for its rich history, exclusivity, and commitment to providing an unparalleled member experience. Established as one of Southern California's premier clubs, Jonathan Club offers a blend of luxury, tradition, and community spirit through its Town and Beach clubhouses. The club emphasizes core values such as Family, Community, Wellness, Respect, and Passion, reflecting in every aspect of its service and member interaction. With a focus on fostering lifelong connections among members, the club prides itself on creating a welcoming and diverse environment where all interests and friendships are embraced. Jonathan Club also upholds a strong commitment to equal opportunity employment and adheres to inclusive policies supporting diversity in gender identity, sexual orientation, veteran status, disability, and more.
The Sommelier / Manager role within Jonathan Club's Town Club is a unique and influential leadership position designed to elevate the club’s wine culture and enhance the overall dining experience. This position calls for a hands-on, visible leader who seamlessly combines cellar management, strategic planning, and dynamic floor presence. The Sommelier / Manager is entrusted with curating a member-centric, compelling wine program that resonates with the tastes and preferences of a discerning clientele, ensuring that wine service is not only expert but also engaging and community-building. Beyond their technical wine expertise, the individual serves as a strong hospitality leader, guiding the dining team through wine education and setting high service standards that reflect the club’s prestigious reputation.
This role requires balancing strategic vision with daily operational execution. The Sommelier / Manager oversees service excellence, manages compliance with club and union guidelines, monitors financial performance, and fosters an inspiring atmosphere within the dining room. Leadership extends to staff training and development to guarantee that all team members contribute to an immersive and seamless member experience, especially during peak service periods. Additionally, the role involves partnering with other club departments to create memorable wine-focused events that deepen members’ connection to the club and each other.
Candidates for this role are expected to possess a deep knowledge of global wine regions and producers and demonstrate advanced wine service skills, preferably proven by a Level 3 Sommelier certification or equivalent credentials. Experience managing high-volume, luxury fine dining or social dining venues is highly desirable. The successful candidate will exhibit high emotional intelligence and outstanding team leadership capabilities, enabling them to nurture a positive work environment and guide their team towards excellence. Flexibility in scheduling, including availability on weekends and holidays, is essential to meet the demands of club operations.
This position offers a competitive annual salary ranging from $85,000 to $95,000, with eligibility for a discretionary annual bonus. Jonathan Club stands out not only for its commitment to excellence in hospitality but also for its dedication to fostering a workplace culture that values each employee’s contribution. The Sommelier / Manager will play a key role in upholding these standards while delivering wine experiences that elevate the club's reputation and satisfy its distinguished members.
