Job Description

Ungrafted is a chef-driven restaurant located in the vibrant Dogpatch neighborhood of San Francisco. Renowned for its serious and thoughtfully curated wine program, Ungrafted offers a unique dining experience where food and wine are harmoniously paired to delight guests. As a restaurant that values both culinary craftsmanship and an inviting atmosphere, Ungrafted has established itself as a destination for wine lovers and food enthusiasts alike. The establishment embraces a casual yet polished environment where guests can enjoy exceptional dishes and expertly selected wines, making it a standout in the competitive San Francisco dining scene.

The opportunity at Ungrafted is for a sommelier/server who is not only passionate about wine but also excels at making guests feel warmly welcomed and comfortable. This role goes beyond traditional sommelier duties to include multi-tasking responsibilities such as taking orders, running food, bussing tables, and contributing to a smooth service flow. This is an excellent position for someone eager to grow in the hospitality industry by mastering not only the art of wine service but also impeccable customer service, team collaboration, and efficient multitasking in a fast-paced environment. Ungrafted's guests are knowledgeable travelers with a deep appreciation for fine food and wine, expecting a high standard of service in a relaxed yet refined setting.

At Ungrafted, the sommelier/server plays a vital role in enhancing the overall dining experience. The right candidate will be fun, friendly, a bit quirky, and deeply passionate about wine, beer, sake, and sherry. The restaurant seeks individuals who enjoy engaging in meaningful conversations with guests and fitting seamlessly into the close-knit, supportive team culture. Regular patrons frequently visit multiple times a week, forming strong connections with staff members, which underscores the importance of both personality and professionalism in the role.

Although certification as a sommelier is preferred, it is not mandatory. The essential requirement is robust restaurant experience combined with a comprehensive knowledge of wine equivalent to certification standards. This role demands a polished personal presentation that aligns with the company’s high standards, a willingness to work flexible hours including nights, weekends, and holidays, and the physical capability to manage the demands of the position such as lifting over 30 pounds and maintaining prolonged periods of standing or bending. Beyond these technical and physical qualifications, Ungrafted values candidates who contribute to cultivating an inclusive, safe, and growth-oriented workplace where excellence and respect are paramount.

This role is ideal for individuals who thrive in dynamic environments and take pride in multi-tasking and delivering exemplary service while surrounded by passionate colleagues, including master sommeliers with whom employees have the opportunity to learn. Employee perks include a flexible and manageable work schedule, the opportunity to purchase wine at cost, a generous employee discount, access to exclusive weekly blind tastings, and support for specialized exam preparation, ensuring ongoing professional development. Working at Ungrafted is not just a job but a chance to be part of an enriching culinary and wine-focused community that cherishes learning, friendship, and excellence every day.
