Job Description

The hiring establishment is a laundry services company specializing in handling and processing soiled linens primarily for customers such as hotels, healthcare facilities, and other organizations requiring large-scale laundry solutions. This company plays a critical role in maintaining hygiene and sanitation standards by ensuring all linens are properly sorted, cleaned, and returned to clients in optimal condition. As a trusted provider in the laundry industry, the company is committed to delivering high-quality service with an emphasis on efficiency, safety, and environmental responsibility. The work environment may include exposure to varying temperatures, airborne particles, and the need to operate near moving machinery, which reflects the dynamic setting of industrial laundry operations.

The open position is for a Soiled Laundry Sorter, an essential role tasked with sorting returned soiled linens into appropriate classifications to ensure effective washing processes. This position is typically full-time, with shifts starting at 10:00 AM and continuing until the task is completed, underscoring the importance of flexibility and dedication in this role. The employee will handle bags of soiled laundry, weighing approximately 45 pounds each, and is expected to meet production standards of sorting around 45 bags or 2000 pounds per hour.

The duties involve opening customer soil bags, discarding plastic, and spreading out the linens on a sorting belt where they are pre-sorted based on type and soil level. Operators move along the work platform, sorting items into designated bins or slots to streamline the cleaning process. They are also responsible for moving empty carts for cleaning and reuse, thereby maintaining workflow efficiency and workspace cleanliness.

This role requires physical stamina as it involves frequent walking, standing, bending, twisting, and lifting items weighing up to 50 pounds. Additionally, push and pull forces exceeding 20 pounds are part of the job, highlighting the need for strength and endurance. The employee must perform tasks requiring simple and power grasp with both hands and utilize feet to operate foot controls as needed. The work environment is non-conditioned, with exposure to extreme temperatures in summer and winter, airborne particles, and moving mechanical equipment. Safety protocols must be rigorously followed.

Decision-making responsibilities include promptly disposing of any unusual items found in the soiled bags, reporting equipment malfunctions to maintenance, and tagging broken carts for repair. Any deviations from normal operations require prior approval, reflecting the controlled nature of the workflow. The employee is expected to adhere to strict hygiene and safety standards due to potential exposure to blood and bodily fluids, classified under Blood/Fluid Exposure Risk Category 1.

In summary, this position is key to the laundry processing chain, requiring a reliable, hardworking individual able to meet physical demands and maintain attention to detail under sometimes challenging environmental conditions. Successful candidates will contribute to the overall efficiency and hygiene of the laundry operation, supporting the company's commitment to quality and customer satisfaction.
