Job Description
The Kensington Hotel on State Street is a distinguished boutique hotel offering an intimate and personalized hospitality experience in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Conveniently located just minutes away from downtown Ann Arbor and the University of Michigan, this 200-room hotel combines modern amenities with a warm, welcoming atmosphere tailored to a diverse clientele including leisure travelers, business visitors, and group events. Known for its commitment to excellence, The Kensington Hotel prides itself on delivering unparalleled customer service, making it a favored choice for guests seeking comfort, style, and convenience in one place.
We are currently seeking an experienced and energetic Social Sales Manager to focus on our wedding and SMERF (Social, Military, Educational, Religious, and Fraternal) market segments. This important role requires a proactive approach to sales, strategic client engagement, and strong relationship-building to ensure the hotel maximizes its revenue potential in these lucrative markets. The position is full-time and comes with a generous benefits package, including a flexible schedule, a rewarding bonus program, and the occasional requirement to work nights and weekends as dictated by business needs.
The Social Sales Manager will be responsible for soliciting and securing new accounts as well as servicing clients and groups on-site. This includes coordinating with individuals and corporations to schedule group room blocks, fill meeting spaces, and organize catering orders. An essential part of the role is performing contract negotiations and managing vendor service agreements to ensure the highest level of client satisfaction while meeting hotel standards.
In this capacity, the ideal candidate will be tasked with effectively attaining assigned sales and revenue goals, as well as meeting solicitation call targets. Proactive outreach through solicitation calls, sales tours, and client entertainment focusing on leisure, SMERF, business travel, and group markets will be a daily expectation. Cultivating strong relationships with existing clients and consistently identifying new potential markets for the hotel will be critical to the role. The position demands exceptional attention to detail, including the timely delivery of banquet event orders and resumes and maintaining accurate, up-to-date filing systems for company accounts.
The Social Sales Manager will also play a key role in the formulation and implementation of innovative sales and marketing techniques that enhance the hotel's competitiveness in the market. Keeping abreast of industry trends and maintaining competitive analysis statistics will inform strategic decision-making. Strong community and industry visibility are important for networking and generating repeat business, alongside managing promotional sales efforts such as sales blitzes.
Regular reporting responsibilities include preparing sales call reports and internal sales reports, attending departmental meetings, and ensuring communication flows smoothly between all impacted hotel departments and operations leaders. The role fosters a team environment where collaboration and support among co-workers are highly valued, and it demands a professional, courteous approach consistently demonstrated when interacting with guests and employees.
Above all, the Social Sales Manager will develop a comprehensive knowledge of hotel operations and policies while delivering professional and courteous customer service. This position requires someone with a genuine passion for hospitality, exceptional interpersonal skills, and a strong drive to achieve and exceed sales goals in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
