The role of SMS Safety Assurance Lead at Bell Textron is an exceptional opportunity for aviation professionals passionate about enhancing safety management systems within the aerospace sector. This full-time individual contributor position is designed for a leader who will spearhead the evolution of Bell's Safety Management System (SMS) into a world-class program that ensures flight and product safety. The position operates under the Flight Operations function with a schedule aligned to the first shift and requires about 15 percent travel. As the SMS Safety Assurance Lead, you will play an indispensable role in strengthening Bell’s safety culture. Your responsibilities will include managing the global SMS audit program, ensuring compliance with international aviation safety standards such as ICAO, TCCA, EASA, FAA, DoD, and DCMA. You will oversee corrective action management processes, conduct thorough safety data trend analyses for reporting to the Safety Review Board and senior leadership, and maintain investigation standards, tools, and training programs. Your expertise will validate risk mitigations' effectiveness through continued monitoring and follow-up, and you will coordinate supplier product safety audits to ensure end-to-end safety assurance.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in aviation safety, engineering, environmental health, occupational safety or related field
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in aviation safety or quality programs
  • Experience with aviation safety regulations and standards
  • Proven audit experience
  • Ability to perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Willingness to travel up to 15 percent of the time

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with a major in Aviation Safety, Engineering, Environmental Health, Occupational Safety or similar discipline
  • At least 5 years working with aviation safety, product safety or quality programs
  • Experience working with regulations and standards, auditing to the same, identifying and conducting root cause analysis, identifying corrective actions, monitoring effectiveness
  • Six Sigma certification is beneficial
  • Ability to audit, analyze and communicate data, trends and safety information for use in change management of the culture and to enhance safety
  • Ability to prioritize work, strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a team player mindset
  • Excellent communicator must be able to build and maintain effective relationships with employees, SMS team members, enterprise leaders at all levels, and brief leaders and regulators

Job Duties

  • Manage global SMS audit program against ICAO, TCCA, EASA, FAA, DoD and DCMA standards
  • Oversee corrective action management
  • Prepare trend analysis for Safety Review Board and leadership
  • Lead safety performance monitoring program
  • Oversee investigation standards, tools, and training
  • Validate effectiveness of risk mitigations through monitoring and follow-up
  • Coordinate supplier product safety audits
  • Maintain any SMS policy and procedure related to Safety Assurance
