Job Description
South Suburban Parks and Recreation is a dynamic public agency committed to fostering healthy living through the stewardship of the environment and the provision of exceptional recreational services and programs. Serving a diverse population across multiple communities including Bow Mar, Columbine Valley, Centennial west of I-25, Littleton, Lone Tree, Sheridan, and unincorporated areas of Douglas, Jefferson, and Arapahoe counties, the district manages an impressive array of facilities and natural spaces. These include four full-service recreation centers, golf courses, outdoor pools and restaurants, two ice centers, miniature golf courses, a botanical garden event center, BMX track, sports dome, batting cages, entertainment center, hotel, and a nature center. The district also maintains nearly 3,800 acres of developed and open space land, which features 119 multi-purpose athletic fields, over 100 parks, nearly 80 miles of trails, 60 playgrounds, 56 tennis courts, and the sprawling 880-acre South Platte Park.
The Skate Host/Rink Monitor position at South Suburban Parks and Recreation offers a unique opportunity for individuals who are passionate about ice skating and enjoy engaging with the public in a vibrant recreational setting. This part-time role, with a competitive pay range of $15.70 to $20.20 per hour, centers on ensuring the safety and satisfaction of all patrons at the ice center. The primary responsibilities involve fitting skating equipment properly for visitors, monitoring public skating sessions to maintain a safe and enjoyable environment, and providing excellent customer service throughout each shift.
The position caters to individuals who thrive in active, public-facing roles and are comfortable working varied hours including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by the facility schedule. Successful candidates must be proficient ice skaters and bring a strong commitment to safety, attentiveness, and customer service expertise. The role also involves responding to emergency situations such as evacuations, medical incidents, or identifying suspicious behavior, highlighting the importance of vigilance and quick decision-making skills.
Beyond direct patron engagement, Skate Hosts/Rink Monitors at South Suburban Parks and Recreation may perform routine facility maintenance duties including trash removal, sweeping the ice area and locker rooms, stocking supplies, and reporting any building maintenance needs. This comprehensive approach ensures the facility remains welcoming, clean, and operational at all times.
As a part of the district’s team, employees benefit from a supportive work environment with opportunities for training and career advancement. The position offers flexible scheduling to accommodate various lifestyles, along with perks like free access to district fitness centers and swimming pools, discounts on recreational classes and golf, and paid sick leave. These benefits reflect South Suburban’s commitment to employee well-being and professional growth.
This ongoing recruitment process invites enthusiastic candidates who meet the minimum qualifications, including being at least 16 years old and having experience assisting the public, to apply. South Suburban Parks and Recreation is dedicated to diversity and inclusion in its hiring and offers an enriching workplace for those who share the passion for community engagement and recreation excellence.
